stem growth in aerogarden is very weak

Wino,
Then I got scared when I read somewhere in this forum that too much light can turn your plants into all males. I don't want a sausage party in my garden! So I re-set the lights to go off at night time.?

I just laughed so loud I woke up my fiance'. Thanks!

Here are some pics from the intensive care unit. Sorry about the quality; I'm using a camera phone. Anyone care to venture why bigger plants in the AG reservoir make the pH plunge?

I guess one way to do it is to just unplug the AG when the roots reach the water... no pump, no over-watering... but you gotta have an airstone...

My 2 cents...bongsmilie

if you unplug the ag what about the light? or do you mean when the lights supposed to be off. cause i havent figured out how to disable just the pump.:wall:

What you need to do is go to radio shack and buy a figure 8 cord and a timer...

Actually it sounds like you need to read some grow journals with the aerogarden....

But anyways....

Once the roots are in the water, unplug the hood from the AG and use your own cord to power it through the timer.... that way you can have 24/0 or 18/6 or 12/12 or any other combination you choose...

And just to be clear... I AM NOT SAYING THE LIGHTS SHOULD OFF, heck I am not even saying the PUMP should be off, I am just saying it CAN be off, if you want it to... but you will need a timer and cord...

I hope this helps...:o

Best of luck...

thanks i was just confused about what you meant i guess.

Sure man... anytime....

and reading my post.. there is a lot of bold and capitals... I didn't mean to be a dick.... I was just trying to stress importance... but reading it now, it seems kinda rude....

I'm sorry...

Still trying to figure out. The obvious thing is that the pH level dropped off for a while. I was adding half a reservoir of pH adjusted water every day, but that made the overall pH too low. Something was going on in the tank. Still waiting for a reply regarding what the nutes are doing to pH.

Another reason might be that the roots are choking each other now. Don't know too much about that subject.

WoW... man that's a bummer...

how fast will your ladies drink half the AGs res?

I have mine as you've seen and I refill about 20 oz a day... 5 weeks in...

Everything can cause a fluctuation of PH and PPM (parts per million)...

There is a formula that describes what happens with the nutes ...

The right size container for the plants you have will not fluctuate PPM as your plants drink

Too small a container and the PPm will go up as they drink

too big and it will go down...

Something like that, I am not sure ...

And I can only imagine that the Ph will vary greatly as more or less of different substances are present in the water...

I don't know what to say... my ladies are small and even then I wish I had more room for their roots.... the kinda just coil around and can't really grow too much without running into something... a deeper container would be good...

I wonder if you can take the top off of the res and rig it to a rubbermaid container...???

That would give you more room for sure... but ... so much for the AG... lol...

I would consider that route man... bigger res should be more stable too... less fluctuation, as a much smaller percentage of the total is consumed/evaporated....

Humm... am I giving you bad advice???? I really hope that if you do decide to follow what I am saying, that you at least run it by some of the more experienced growers here... Ie. Al B Fuct....

Ask man, it can't hurt... be ready for anti AG comments, but HE WILL HELP YOUR PLANTS....

I really hope this helps, or that you find a solution ASAP...

Good Luck Bro...

I have seen that done some. someone here had added cord to extend his hood and was using it with a rubbermaid system.....i think..he may have been using soil though..

different idea...

I mean to use the rubbermaid container as the reservoir for the DWC...

Scrapping the AG res and just cutting the lid to fit the AG tray (with the pump and all that jazz)

Just a thought though....

I found a quick way to germinate seeds in the aero is to put a hole through the middle of the pod, not to big where the seed falls through, put seed in, put the pod in the aero, wet the pod down, then cover the lid with tin foil and cover the pod. In a couple of days the seed will sprout and in a week or so you will see root. When it sprouts remove tin foil. I hope this helps anyone.

Well i don't mean to sound like a dick but speak for yourself, my plants have damn good sturdy stems on em in my AG...
