Stealth Hydro Bubbleponics newbie questions

Hello,

I am a first time grower and just bought a stealth hydrop bubbleponic system (http://www.stealthhydroponics.com/product.php?xProd=2&xSec=2). I have a few questions I am hoping someone can help me with.

- I bought clones that were already rooted in rockwall cubes. The tallest clones were 5-6" tall, a few a bit shorter. I added 1/2 of the recommended nutrient dosage since the plants are small. Should I add the other 1/2 or should I wait until the plants get closer to 8-10" before upping their diet to the full amout of nutes?
- My grow room is our attic (I know I have to watch heat) and there is a good sized vent directly to outside fresh air aboout 6-7 feet above the plants. Will this suffice for adequate ventilation, or do I still need a vent fan?
- I see that during the veg phase you are supposed to run the lights from 18-24 hours. How do you determine the precise amount of light to give within that range? I am currently doing 21 hrs of light.

Thanks in advance for your help and any other advice is welcomed!

21 hours lol whatever works just yea from 18 to 24 during veg is fine its enough ventilation just as long as its not to hot whats the temps? i would only give them half dont want to over nute them yet. let them grow a lil bit.

i wouldnt even give them half strength.. maybe 1/4 strength for a week or so then stepping up so on and so forth. and yes 18-24 hours will keep the plant in vegetative cycle. most use 18/6 to keep electricity bills and heat down. cheers. :leaf:

As always check out Rosemans tutorial on growing many great tips and info on lights nutes, venting etc...

Hello,

If they have ample roots in the deep water, and IF they adjusted well to the first half without any yellow tips, then the other half is OK.
It is always better to UNDER feed than to OVER feed.
- My grow room is our attic (I know I have to watch heat) and there is a good sized vent directly to outside fresh air aboout 6-7 feet above the plants. Will this suffice for adequate ventilation, or do I still need a vent fan?

I didn't see if you was using CFLs or HID lights.
IF CFLS, then OK, if HOT HIDS, you will need more Venting. And do you have near by neighbors that will smell them?

21/3 is OK, and is very debatable.
Some experts say they need a rest and a break from 24/7.
I Veg grow 24/7.

Thanks for the help!

newb101 - It's 89 outside, but the temp in the attic is only 74. It's on the north side of the house so doesn't get much sun... But I know I will need to find a different place come summer.

Roseman:
- The roots are barely sticking out of the rockwool they are not in the reservoir water yet
- One plant as some slightly yellowing tips on 1 leaf and it's drooping a bit... but shame on me for not checking them more carefully cause I’m not positive that they weren’t like that when I bought em. I attached a pic of the leaf and also the vent… conveniently it has a thermostatically controlled exhaust fan, but it’s quite loud and not practical to leave on very long.
- I am using CFLs, the 85w guys that came with the SH kit
- The neighbors won't care if they smell them... thankfully they're smokers, too :-)

Thanks Roseman. I will keep you posted. I've ready everything that came with the kit and am slowly reading your tutorial thread...

Another question for you if I may - is it possible that the yellowing on the leaf is wind burn? I have a small non-oscillating fan about 2 feet away from the plants. It doesn't move much air and is on it's lowest setting. I figure I will rotate the reservoir 180 degrees every couple of days to change which plants are closest to the fan... and also to alternate which of the 2 lights they are getting more of. Is this a wise and necessary thing to do?

I keep two fans on mine, both two to 3 feet away, one higher up and one close to the floor and I never got or get wind burn.

Keep those CFLS one to two inches near the plants.

Unfortunately I think it's getting (slightly) worse for the plant I am most concerned about and a couple of others have a very small yellow tip on a few of their leaves. See attached pics.

Should I wait another day or go ahead and replace the water with a batch with less nutes?

Thank you for all the help and for accomodating my paranoia!

A Plant with no roots in the water can not eat any nutes.

Brand new clones should be foilage sprayed and kept in high humidity.

If you have functioning feeder tubes going to them, then do have 1/4 strenght nutes for a few days, then increase to half dose.

Here's an update - I reduced them down to 1/4 nutes a week ago. Probably ready to go back to 1/2 today or tomorrow. 4 of the plants are doing quite well. 2 are showing different symptoms on their leaves - see attached pics. Any idea what this could be?

Looks Like nute burn also check you temps

Hello All,

The plants are all thriving, thanks for your continued help. I noticed some white "stuff" growing on the rockwool cubes that I assume is some kind of mold (see pic). That makese sense considering how most I've kept the cubes with the bubbleponics system. Just want to be sure this won't endanger the plants?

I've moved the plants to DWC buckets a few days ago, so no water is being directly applied to the cubes anymore.
