starting soil question, miracle grow organic choice & mg pertile

Hi,

I am new to this. I don't want to grow a crazy crop. Just one plant or two and thats all. I am planning on growing it outdoor for the summer and indoor for the winter.


I just bought miracle grow organic choice pot mix, miracle grow pertile and Scott's top soil. I also heard that mixing it wit Scotts seeding grass soil works too but not sure.

My seed has already sprouted and ready to begin life.


Can someone point me in the right direction with the soil mix and how to mix it. I want to make sure I got the correct mix.

Perlite to base soil ratio should be around 20% perlite to 80% soil.

You want the base soil to be the highest percentage, so if you're adding worm castings it'd be 20% perlite, 60% base soil and 20% worm castings.

Do I have a fair decent mix or no

Also Is Scotts seeding grass soil any good to mix with?

That's pretty good considering it's a miracle grow soil, means you have a near 0 base when it comes to nutrients, you'll have to add some in yourself.

Should be alright.

be careful with the mg perlite. it has nutes in it so adding to mg soil (which is pretty damn hot to begin with, even the organic has time release nutes) is going to leave you with a pretty hot soil. growing outside should help the plant keep pace with the nutes. I'm not convinced about the grass soil. does it have an npk rating? the scotts seeding grass soil i found online has an npk of .08-.03-.02 and a wetting agent, so it's a bit less hot than the mg but not by much. I've never used a moisture control type soil for weed but i use it for potted flowers outside and have awesome results. based on all this i would say the grass soil is fine to mix in but aside from the wetting agent i don't think it will make a major difference.

What nutrients should I give it in the meanwhile, or should I wait until they get a little bigger for nutrients, rite now they are sprouts

they definately wont need to be fed for a couple weeks with all that food in the soil already. after that the plant will tell you when it starts to get hungry.
