starting seeds for hydro

Can one start a seed inside a miniature hempy cup with perlite and vermiculite? I saw a thread of someone doing that, is it "safe" i.e. very effective?

I had another idea, what if I were to get those rooter plugs and put the seed in that, then directly into a mini hempy cup? That seems like it would have a better chance.

I am just afraid of rockwool for some reason, I have only used it once with clones and I failed miserably.

What do you guys recommend as a fool proof seedling starting method for hydro?

Clones and seeds are different. I start my beans in the paper towel and baggie, pre soak the rockwool cubes, when the seed is open and has a little tap root on it split the cube open with your fingers and put the seed inside close it back up and put the wrapper back on it. I wait until the root has emerged from the cube and put it in a hempy solo cup. Works well for me, good luck with whatever you try.

Ok but can I substitute rock wool cubes with rooter plugs instead?
