Starting first DWC soon - just a few "loose end" nute/ph questions

yeh it will be bottle gas, wow i was thinking it would be good for them but is it co2 or carbon monoxide these give off? Also will it lower the humidity much?

Have you used one before? because im also wondering how long you get out of a bottle of gas ? :)

hi there as long as the flame is blue ur gud to go (co2) is what u wil get. carbon monoxide would kill u my friend let alone the plant lol the only thing is with burnin bottle gas u will get high humidity as these heater let of water vapor and vent out the room every 3 hours with freash air for 1 hour

bottle gas can last up to 8 weeks or so even more longer on a low setting u will get 3 times the amount ov co2 to gas burnt

Thanks for the tips.I'l only be heating the room the tent is in (or maybe i'l use the hot air in the room as the intake aswell?) , so hopefully the humidity wont go up too much.

How many hours do you roughly get from a bottle of gas?

Do what I did and use a 5 gallon sports cooler .. ( The ones you see teams on the sideline use to get water or gatorade) when I res change I cool my water with frozen water bottles and for a good 7 days the temp never changes ..
I've decided having my totes professionally insulated may be what I should do . I just like the all around design and function of my totes(see them here..... https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/346967-my-first-grow.html , they work extremely well but could use the insulated res in summer

i think my main problem will be too cold temps, i dont think heat will be a problem, the tent will be 8x4 roughly and i have ordered an 8" ruck fan for it, so i can keep the temps low, but when the lights are off in the tent im not sure the water will stay hot enough. The room that the tent will be in is about 60-65f id say at the moment, which means the intake air to the tent will be pretty cold. so res heaters maybe the way to go, but i dont fancy loads of extra wattage (ive 6x dwc containers, so 6xheaters) and a heater that wont switch off when the water gets to a certain temp.

I'll just have to run the lights at night and see what temps im left with during the day. hopefully it might just pass, but it is getting colder, so in a few months i might be screwed.
at 60 you're probably pushing it but if you maintain a room temp of 70f (which you should do if I'm correct) you shouldn't need to touch the water.

somebody correct me if I'm wrong because this winter (which is coming real soon) will be a rude awakening for me and a econominc spurt for home depot because I'm dashing for shit to fix my problem. Actually I've decided i don't know wtf I'm talking about and am wondering about my own shit now, I already know I gotta buy more shit for winter (co2/temp controller and exhaust fan plus possibly carbon scrubber but I make mine and the only real expense is the carbon) but at least it beats the fuck out of having to cool things in the summer which I've seen very up close and personal. forgot the subject mid-reply I'm so fucked up but wtfever, good luck and happy smoking!!

Arent those totes classed as SWC not DWC? Mine is just roots fully suspended in water with airstones, no water jets or piping.

Will insulating also help keep them warmer in the winter? I was thinking of buying on of those water heater lagging jackets and cut it into strips and cover the outside of the totes, just wondering would that cool or warm them or have any effect?

truthfully I'm thinking that if room temps are maintained there will be no need to touch the water but I already said that. I'm not quite sure what you mean swc, of course I could google it and not look ignorant to the acronym but I don't even know what it means.shallow water culture? I dunno the specs on each , I'm real new but absorbing all the info I can.

Yeh i think it is shallow water culture (no expert myself) :) As I thought DWC was a tote filled with water just a few inches below net pot with airstones.

Cool, if I can raise the room temp up by a few degrees during the day I'd say I'll be fine as the lights on at night (2x600w hps) should be enough heat during the night. (with good ventialtion aswell obviously, dont want the plants frying, lol)
