Start with small pots then translplant?

I am planning on germinating my seeds in the upcoming week and I have been pretty much following the Buds for Less book. In the book he uses a rockwool cube for starting the seeds, placing the cube in a 3 gallon pot. I plan on starting my seeds using the papertowel method and then planting them directly into the soil. My question is whether I should plant the geminated seeds into a smaller pot first and then tranpsplant to a larger 3 gallon on down the road or could i start off in the 3 gallon pot? Is it better for the plant to start in a small container and be transplanted?

no you should be fine with going straight to the big one.

what you might want to think of doing and what i do is use peat pots (can be bought at canadian tire, home depot, walmart, wherever) and then after about 2 weeks i just put them into a bigger pot. no transplanting involved you just put the whole peat pot with the plant into your big pot.
