SSH & SLH, which pheno's?

Hi all.

Old Overgrower here.

I've had a long involuntary break from growing due to a hellish bout with fusarium, the fungus that comes straight out of hell. Now, a move and years later, I think I just might be ready to go again...

My favorite when I was at it was a local strain similar to Jack Hereer, an extremely vigorous hybrid with pheno's all over the place.

I picked the 9-week intermediates, with dense rock hard buds comprised of a multitude of small, hard, individual flowers. It smelled kinda piney, and slightly lemony and a bit skunky, if that makes any sense. As a clone it grew as a typical hybrid with sturdy stems that held themselves good, and branched out nicely to allow for good light penetration. Vegged for 12-14 days, topped for 8-10 colas and flowered for 9 weeks, it yelded up to 150 grams in soil/perlite and with a good liquid full organic regimen. And the buds NEVER got rot...

The high was a lot of head with a very good body buzz too without getting tired. Seasoned growers and smokers were in total awe over it, and I've never had better in 20+ years of smoking.

And as with everything else good, it is now gone and unavailable... And I need and want something very similar.

I still have 30 SSH seeds from Mr. Nice/Shantibaba I think in the fridge from back in the day, and I bet 2/3 of them will still germ. And I also want to try out the much raved about SLH now, as the reports I've read on here kind off brings back fond memories, hehe...

I like to grow out ATLEAST 20 seeds for unstable hybrids to pick a killer mom or two, and a father to f2 them with.

Given my preferences much is already a given I guess, but any pointers based on personal experience regarding pheno's to look for and other heads-up from the veg-stage and out in these strains, would be highly appreciated.

Other strain-recommendations based on this too, btw.

And where to order the SLH-seeds to get the real deal?

Sorry for the eyesore of a post, just excited to find this place and hopefully get a grow going again soon - it's been a LONG fucking time...

Thanks in advance.

hi, welcome at riu, id be glad to give you my experience on your 1st post. i only grew 1 slh and got the more sativa pheno...the potency was high enough for me, that you are going to trip when you are not doing anything, i had a massage and my hands were moving by itself, i knew people who were high tolerance in weed and got them smashed with one bowl, the taste was literally sweet on the 2nd week of cure, the smell was awesome...dont know if it smelled lemon but it sure was sweet smelling and a hint of citrus on the side. id give it a 7.5/8 out of 10. for the reason that im not too crazy of hazes. i was smoking it before my cheese finished so i guess my cheese blew that SLH away. believe it or not i was giving extra attention to my slh than any of my strains and end up loved the cheese more.

I am growing three SLHs and already harvested one. The one I harvested looked like the best plant from the start. Thick stem, huge leaves, well developed branches. The pheno was more towards sativa. It stretched a bit at the start of flowering, but nothing unmanageable. The smell is fantastic! And it carries on into the smoke after a proper cure. When you exhale the green hit through your nose, it smells like sweet lemony candy. I harvested it rather late (10.5 weeks) when there was a number of orange trichomes. The potency blew me away...this one had a strong all-round buzz; more body than head, probably because it was harvested so late. I´ll harvest the next one earlier to compare. The yield wasn´t much; i was growing in a small container. I´ll try a bigger one next time.

The one I am going to harvest next week is a more indica looking pheno. No stretch during flowering (or BARELY, maybe), but the smell is almost the same as the sativa pheno. The cola doesnt look as big as the first one, but looks denser. I pollinated some of the lower branched with my mango haze male...the mango haze female is growing next to the SLH now...and I have to say, it like the way it smells better than the indica pheno SLH...its sweeter, fruitier, and more pronounced. The seeds would be fun to grow...

The last two SLHs just started flowering three weeks ago. They are in bigger containers than the first two. Both have small buds and are starting to make trichomes. Smell similar to the first two SLHs, though as with most strains, the smell evolves as the plant matures.

Anyway, hope this was at least a little helpful...

Thanks littleflavio, hehe yeah the SLH sounds hazy and potent and we like that a lot... I actually got a wee bit psychotic from my old Jack-variety hybrid; smoked too much of it for a long time and went on a paranoia trip for some days, hahaha!

But since I've been out of the loop for a long time... Pls enlighten me on this cheese you speak about...?

ddimebag thanks a lot for your report, exactly what I'm looking for to build a better mental image of the strain. I so look forward to get back into this, I have never loved anything else quite as much as I did growing... The whole process is just so damned fun and rewarding.

I like to grow out many seeds of the unstable hybrids as I said, and I mercilessly weed out the runts and the EXTREME stretchers alredy in veg/early flower, to spare me the hassle of keeping track of a million clones.
If I plant 30 seeds, I'm happy to flower 18-20 plants, and I usually have a good F/M rate, so that often means 10-12 potential mothers to chose from.

Then they have to pass for potency, yield, bud structure, rot-resistance, smell and flavor, general hardiness, clone-willingness and all of that... And if such an intensive grow-out finally ends me up with two decent long-term keepers and a father for f2-ing, I'm happy as a pig in shit...

So I'm extremely picky when it comes to chose a strain to grow out, and almost anal about getting the best pheno possible from it, hehe...

My goal now as I'm starting up again is to build a stock of hardy "medicinal" mothers, with a couple of hazy hybrids with decent yields and times, a narcotic indica or two, and perhaps a personal stash keeper sativa-pheno, time will tell.

But first, I'm all for finding a decent replacement for my BELOVED Jack-variety.

Thanks a lot the both of you, great info to build on.

Picture 033.jpgPicture 035.jpgPicture 030.jpghere is pics of my second slh grow everyone loves it my pheno starts out with fat leaves that get skinny in flower cycle everyone likes it

Your plants look great horribleherk, thanks a lot for the pics.

Good info too on the leaf structure. I tend to be so focused on the hazy hybrids when that's what I want from a grow, that I just might have a little tendency to neglect the most indica-dom pheno's... I will try not to do that this time, hehe.
