I am new to this site and forums in general and decided I had to post my story because I told a few people and they said I should share this with you guys. My name is Joe
I started looking into growing my own and supplementing my income. I knew a thing or 2 about it but after looking into the industry, I realized I wanted to find a way to really make the most out of the times.
I started by going to the THC Expose at the convention center in LA in April this past year. I was going to kind of learn about the industry and see if I could learn a thing or 2 about growing.
I couldn't believe my fucking eyes when I walked through this place. Is this really happening??? God Bless America!!! This is the Shit I dream about!!!. Everywhere I look is reefer madness.
I stop off at an info booth about laws and rights. I start talking to this guy who seems like a smart dude, so I tell him what I am thinking about. Turns out, I have every right in the state of CA to grow my own as long as I stay within the states guidelines. - Ok I'm growing, decision is made.
Next stop, figure out how to grow my own.
So I keep moving, I find a few booths with cool grow related products, I ask a few questions and within no time, I realize, these guys think I am a chump because I never did this before. It's like they don't have time to teach beginners. I know there is a lot to it, but you don't have to be dicks.
So I decide to go smoke outside, I am staring at the sky looking at planes trailing big ass advertisements, enjoying a nice Saturday afternoon of smokin buds and getting educated.
As I go back into the show, I kind of start wandering around, I feel like the bright sodium lights attracted me because I wanted to see how the grow operation was set up. I come across this pathway and I see these crazy grow boxes. There was a company selling square shaped boxes and a company that had round boxes. I go check these guys out and both of them basically do everything for you (so they say). so I got BC northern lights on the right and hydroplex on the left. Hydroplex's booth was off the hook, they had dj's and rappers and shit. I suppose the whole show was bumping all day but these guys were out of control. I go in BC's booth and I get a look at their machines. I forget the guys name but he was cool and helpful. He explained the machines and their advantages.. Suddenly I glance over at this tower of round machines at hydroplex and ask him to compare the 2. He didn't have much of an answer. I kinda felt like he was upset that I asked that question. Anyhow I walked over to the hydroplex booth. This machine is insane. The plants spin and rotate, the thing looks like a spaceship and they guy is explaining it to me made a lot of sense.
I decided that based on my living conditions, I kind of had to have an enclosed tent or some sort of chamber. I really didn't have a whole room to dedicate to this.
So I checked out the rest of the show, must have spent all day there. Grow tent, Spinner or BC Box???
I decided to do some more research. I went home that night and checked out a bunch of different systems online. They all seemed pretty cool and easy, but most of those machines cost thousands to buy. The BC machine is over 3500 when your done. The Spinner was still steep at 2500 and the box just didn't seem like it belonged in my house. I decided after comparing the companies products and the conversations I had with them at the booth, I was sold on The Spinner.
I decided to bring some cash with me on Sunday. See them both again. I had 4k so I was ready to bargain.
I took another look at the BC box and decided I wasn't impressed. Hydroplex's machine was the real deal. I go over there and ask about buying a machine. One of the reps walks over and takes me over to the side stack and asks me how long I have been growing. (fuck me running, not again). I told him I was just beginning. To my surprise, he was like, no problem, we can help you with all of that. He gave me a basic rundown of my duties with the machine. All I really had to do was make sure the pump and light timers were set properly, keep a close eye on the temperature, nutrient levels, PH, and plants to make sure they are staying healthy. If I ever had any questions, I could call their support line anytime and ask questions. Plus they were local...
I ended up squeezing 2 Spinners out of them for 4k. I had to get nutrients and a few other small items, but he gave me a list. He also gave me a set up dvd which was cool.
After the show, I meet this guy Ken in the parking lot and get my 2 Spinners. I went straight home and called my buddy to come over and help me out. We pop in the dvd and pull the machines out of the boxes. The machine was mostly pre-assembled so we skipped a bunch of chapters. We stacked them one on top of the other. Actually, this system looks bad ass. I am fucking stoked.
Monday I start calling dispensaries and these mf's don't open til like 11am. I finally start getting people on the phone and find a couple places that have clones, but I need 24. I end up finding them at a local joint (no need to mention names)..
So I give it my first effort. I call the Hydroplex support line and told them I was getting ready to plant (They were pretty impressed I was that fast). I couldn't wait. 8 weeks and Harvest, I was already counting the days. I follow the Techno-flora recipe for success using BC Grow, BC Bloom, BC Boost, Sugar Daddy basically to a T. My first time growing and I am fucking stoked. The machines worked just like they promised, rotating the plants both directions and within 2 weeks, I couldn't believe the development. After a month I was shitting my pants because there were buds everywhere. All I had to do was top off my res and everything else was pretty standard. The temp was good, the ph didn't need much effort to check... I trimmed every so often as I felt it was needed and after about 7.5 weeks, my plants were ready to cut down. I swear I thought I had like 5 pounds, Monster stalks and just a pile of buds. I spent a lot of time researching curing because I know that it is crucial to the quality of the buds.
I spent about 3 weeks on the process. When I was done, I weighed my harvest. I was fucking astonished. 2.8lbs total. I am fucking rich!!!! Some of my friends are avid smokers and they said that the plants didn't really resemble the traits of the strain I was told they were but they said the shit was dank as hell anyways so lets smoke it. I ended up offing it to a few local dispensaries and I was getting 250 per ounce all day long. I just got 2 more Spinners and I have tons of pics to share. Mad props to Hydroplex for their system. I just started growing in May and I have already harvested twice for almost 6 lbs.
So that is my story, I hope anyone who reads it enjoy's it. The point of the story is that any beginners out there, don't be intimidated, growing buds is easy. If you have a good teacher.
