Spiders for pest control?

I was thinking about catching a few spiders from outside and putting them in my grow room. Would this be an effective means of prevention for controlling pests?

No. I allow a few spiders in my flower room, they don't catch gnats nor spider mites. You can buy lady bugs from Aquaserene.com

NO NO NO I had a friend who tried that and he ended up with webs all over his buds. Lady Bugs are the way to go.

since we are on the topic of friendly critters...

my friend has a huge greenhouses and has millions of lady bugs... very effective :):):)

but also, do you think letting worms in the soil would be good ? worms supposedly are good for plants because of their castings and other life processes

does your mantis stay put in the grow room? if so thats a pretty cool pet. but what would they eat? i would assume spidermites/knats are too small?

yeah...he stays in there no problem...he did keep falling off my table so I made him a ladder to get back up and he is always on my plants

Praying Mantis Diet
Mantids are aggressive hunters and will eat a wide range of garden insects including aphids, mosquitoes, caterpillars, beetles, flies, grasshoppers, crickets, leaf hoppers, moths and many others. These predators customarily perch on a branch and wait, perfectly still, for their prey to come within range. They then strike out with incredible speed, grab the hapless insects and devour them.

very original, what about having a venus fly trap?

mantis is awesome pet.... i caught 1 one time at a park by me.... it was 10 times the size of that... pretty scary little critter...

great keep...

i did a little research on the mantis when i caught it a while ago, and it says that...

they are native to only a small area, and once you accustom them to one plant or a chosen few... they will stay there til they die or find a mate... they are very territorial supposedly.

dont mate him (if it is a him) kuz the females bite their heads off for nourishment for the babies... rofl
