Spider-mites? got a pic

you need to look under the leaves too. you can see them with the naked eye. you have to look VERY closely. they are just running around man. if you do have them, you need to work on them ASAP.

what stage of life-cycle are you in?

i think those are thrips actually. search on RIU here for ways to combat those.

The plants are in early veg stage and a little less than a foot tall. I did check the underside of the leaves and found no crawlies except for a lil tiny crawling spider which at first just seemed likie a spec of dirt but then it started crawling and i can make out the lil fuckers legs! so I was sure its spider mites....

I checked this last night and all the stores were cloesd so instead i made my own garlic, cayenne pepper, and soap spray....i sprayed both sides of leaves untill the whole plant was soaked....then i turned on the fan to have it dry before turning my 400W mh back on.

I checked again bout an hour later and didn't see any more crawlies but I'm going to goto radioshack to pick up a magnifier just to make sure. If i still see those lil niggas im gonna buy neem oil spray.....my last resort will be the no pest strip.

what you guys think?

that tiny crawling spider is mites then. thrips are kinda like tiny grain of rice.. whiteish slender.

if you are in early veg, then you've got a better chance of ridding them. no pest strip isnt going to help you. I've blasted them with a rubbing alcohol : water mix, but that isn't a true solution.

you can go one of two routes.. all organic, natural treating (nematodes, neem oil, that mix spray you tried), or you can go commercial miticide. Since you are so early into veg, i'd go the latter. Some1 will probably flame me for saying that, but mites are no fukkin joke, and they will take over your shit in no time.

http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=Forbid+4F&_sacat=See-All-Categories i actually use this. its VERY strong, you need to follow directions to the T. its translaminar so you wont need to spray underneath the leaf - it will go through it. It will last you for awhile. After my last bad infestation, i got this stuff, and haven't luckily had them again.

thanks for the help,

So I checked the plant this morning after doing that home made spray.....it looks ok...I tried to see if I can spot any more mites but couldn't find any. I bought a 10x-15x magnifier from radioshack and checked the leaves pretty carefully.....I paid close attention to the underside of the leaves and could not find any mites. Anything that looked like it could be a mite turned out to just be a piece of debris or something. I'd imagine that if I had a 15x zoom the mites would be pretty distinguishable amongst other little debris such as a piece of soil or something. Other than a few calcium deficiency marks which I will clear with cal mag......how does it look?

here's the thing about mites. you gotta retreat in 3 - 4 days. You have only stopped the adults. next, its party time for the larvae.

actually looks alright.

i would monitor HEAVILY for the return of multi-legged critters :P

ya I think i have more a phobia toward lil microscopic bugs than really big ones.....that shat looks like it is zoomed 100x. I don't have a microscope man. I would definitely be able to spot them with my 15x zoom right? (I got 20/20 vision in my dome and a I spotted the first mite with my nakie eye....even saw the legs...)

I also tried using a white sheet of paper and placing it under the leaves and then flicking the leaves with my finger to see if anything falls off......didn't find anything so I'm pretty sure they are gone for THE TIME BEING. You think I should check every day or multiple times a day? Don't wanna get too obsessed but you have to be just obsessed enough in order to have some bomb shit in the end right? This my first indoor grow.

If you'd like to see all details of the grow check my journal. :)

any reason you didnt bring the medium level all the way up to the top of the plant? you're cutting out possible root growth area. more roots = more foliage = buds

well a couple of reasons...i wanted to prevent the plant from being too close to the light....and 2...the pot is actually pretty big...i think 5 gal? (edit:that pot is holding about 7 quarts of soil) What you think?

whats that mix? looks nice. that plant has potential to get really big. Think about it. You can measure across that opening, get the #, probably 12" on that - then check online for container pots and just cross-reference the size. 1 gal is 4L - so you got like 20L of medium for roots to grow into. Check this same size container (pretty sure), but I'm going in coco.

how far up are the lights? what type? we are kind of trampling on the subject of this thread. PM me if you want, or... its your thread, lets keep it rollin!

I guess big question is how much growing space do you have between the container and the light? how far up can the light go - presuming its moveable.

looks pretty nice man...:) glad i have some assistance here. I am not trying to grow my plant very tall actually....i got everything noted in my journal but im actually going to LST it....i want to keep the branches pretty low and get the light to the little tiny branches by bending it.....i actually got a clone that had a crazy bend in it...(you can tell from the first picture)....seems like the stem was strong due to the bend and it had the nicest foilage out of the others... and might make it easier to bend later....once the roots get out of the lil rockwool...

the top of the plant is approx. 17.5 in. below a 400W MH.......and I cannot raise the light any more......my setup is in a 2'x2' and about 3.5ft high area in my closet...
