depending on how many plants you have you can veg with florecents but you need more lights that 2 20 watters hope this helps and depending how much you want to put into these plants you can use hps the whole time but the more blue light you have (mh is best for veg) the better they will probably turn out
hope this helps
happy grow!

use the floros until they get a few real leaves on them at least and then switch to MH - watch and not burn them - the HID lights are a lot hotter. So keep it at least 18" away to start (assuming it is a 400w or more). MH can be used the rest of the time until you start flowering (as SunnyD pointed) so the switch to HPS comes with the switch to 12/12.

could i just use MH instead of flourcents or would that not work? cause doesnt MH use light to grow roots and make it stronger? so the question... could i just use MH for the seedling and untill the child has a few leaves? thanks

right on two questions 1) What would happen like instead of using flourcents and i use MH. Would the plant be stronger/better? 2) At first, how far away should i keep the light away from the soil... its a 1000watt thanks alot

i use 1000w of lights too (a 400w MH and a 600w HPS for the whole grow) and i started at 2.5 feet but dropped it down to 2 feet and leave it there for awhile.... raising it as the plants grow.

but they don't need light until you see green peaking up. I also covered them with clear plastic cups for the first two days - but you can see that in my grow journal (my sig) if you want to look.

ya,,,,the reason i said floros for week or 2. is because u really dont need that much intense light starting off and floros would do a really good job. save some cash somewhere

talking about electricity... as in saving money wise...? well thats not an issue at all... but i guess i'll just use the MH so... all right. after i have the seeds sprouted... just put them in and give it a little light of MH...?

that sounds about right.

no - not exactly. The MH is used for vegetative growth and for that you can either use 24/0 or 18/6.

When you decide to start flowering is completely up to you. But does depend on a few factors like how big they can get, if you are topping your plant and some other things.

Anyway, when you decide to start flowering, you change your bulb to HPS and go to 12/12 making sure to extra light reaches your plants during their dark period.

sometimes a plant shows sex before going to 12/12 - other times they don't show until a week or two after switching to 12/12. depends on if you allow your plants to veg long enough to pre-flower.
