So heres my idea if you had some small 2qt pots with soil w/ hydro rocks with several holes in the bottom. If your roots were to reach the holes and grow through and you let them reach your res. With airstones kinda like dwc what would yalls thoughts be for problems with this set up. I know that dirt would fall but it wouldnt clog the airstone?? right?? i made a pic but it wont let me upload it but you can kinda get a idea

well their already in pots with soil and now that the roots are growing down though the drain holes and i was just wondering if it would work and if anyone has done it before or thought of it. i have both soil and hydroponic so i know the clear diff but what if? would it have tha taste like soil but grow faster like dro? i am about to repot them but would it work if i didnt and just worked it like this what would happen?

sounds like it could work, but would you still water the soil?? drain off into your res?? might jus confuse the shit outta your plant?? lol im on my first grow n havent even tried any hydro, jus some things to think about...

shit if you have the time and patience i say try it.

i got some clones in coconut fiber, which is just like soil, and i do the hydro in rockwools.
so out of the 6 inch block i cut out a hole for the plant to fit, they are flowering right now.
they didnt really like it too much, they are growing kinda funky and arent packin up that density that the rest of the bud without is gettin.

but i wouldnt do it if its something you plan to make profit on.

yea i was thinking bout this what if you just watered the soil just to keep it kinda moist maybe like once or twice a week? and just let it drain into the res but after enough waterings wouldnt things just wash down and then you really wouldnt have a problem? its not like its running a water pump just airstones like dwc

that was another tricky aspect, if you soak the rockwool for a couple hours or even over night it holds water better.

the coconut fiber gets dry way faster than the rockwool and doesnt hold moisture for shit compared to the rockwool.

they get fed twice in a 12 hour period, and get pretty dry once they are fed again.

maybe worth it. i could imagine them babies endn up wit a serious ass root system.... be careful addn nutes to the res if theres any still in the soil tho...

well you want them to be pretty dry before every feeding so your roots can stretch and find water.
i always leave mine moist at all times i have them in 2 qt pots from clones 2 weeks ago and the growing roots like crazy out the bottom!!
have you tryd to water maybe 3 or 4 times a day?

my bad, i didnt mean you personally. i meant "you" in the general form.
when it comes to rockwool, i like them to get pretty dry before they get fed.
