Soil

I am a new grower this is my first year and i have a few plants started outside. There are in just plain topsoil and are doing ok. But next year i figured i should do it right and i was wondering what i should put in the soil and how much to put in. I live in mid Michigan and am dealing with the normal topsoil around here. Any advice would be a big help.

Top soil isn't good. its more to dress up gardens... You need a premium (not $1.00 stuff, the best you can afford) potting soil (no miracle grow) mixed with perlite or pro-mix (my fav.) at about 50-50%, for drainage....

Thanks for the advice but i was wondering why not to use miracle grow?
Some do, like 40 acres with good results.. but MG soils tend to be moisture control or pre-nuted (even though not marked) and this CAN be problematic with inexperienced growers... Better You control water & nutes... easy to add nutes....a bitch to remove them by flushing..that can start an over water problem..
