I was just wondering if anyone has an answer to why my soil keeps drying up now that I put a fan on my seedlings!?:joint: (pic below to show u what I'm talkin about) Is the fan drying the soil or the plants?:joint: Anothser question I have is, do u thin that my two 26 watt 6500k cfl's is enuff for those plants that they're on?

The top bit of soil might just be drying out cause of the air movement, it happens.


As for the lighting, because of how big your pots are the ones of the outside are pretty far away. I would have used smaller pots or cups to start them off. Since your past that, I would add more lights, or elevate/slant the outside plants a bit so they're closer to the lights. With CFL's you want your plants to be 2-4 inches from the lights.

might have been if you started in smaller pots as previously suggested. Another problem is you have no reflectors so most of your light is just radiating off into space. Most of the light comes off the sides BTW not the tip (I have a light meter and checked it) you need to rotate your fixtures onto the sides and get those lights a lot closer and rig a reflector up something like an aluminum turkey roaster or the likes.
The soil drying out is EXACTLY what you want, every time it dries down oxygen is pulled down to the roots. That's a good thing.
