Soil pH

Just a quick question, how do I check the pH of my soil and what does it mean by, how much will i "yield"?

Get a PH tester at a garden or maybe hardware store. The PH should be between 6.0 and 6.5.

So is there a difference in a ph test for water and for soil? That's what I'm confused about...
