i've gone back and forth between different SOG/ScrOG setups, and i'm havin a tough time deciding where to go from here. i'm hoping some of yawl could throw a little solid advice my way. Basically, what we have now is one 4x4 tent, vegging six 10-gal DWC buckets (each holding six 5" net pots) under an 8-bulb high-output T5 fixture. they've been vegging for roughly 6 weeks and are starting to crowd each other (ugh). just waiting on the 600 hps lights and second 4x4 tent (among other things) before we throw em into flower. we took clones 2 days ago (which should apparently take roughly 2 weeks to sex ?), but we aren't sure which direction to go from here. would it hurt to start the 12/12 cycle using the T5's for a few days until we get the 600's? and just pull the males as soon as we spot em ? i figure some of the clones may fail, so might as well set the tent to flower and just keep an eye on em.
so this is what i'm thinking using our 2x4 closet (well, just a few inches bigger), we could root in an areo-cloner (or bubble cloner) under some small fl's on the top shelf. we could then hang our current T5's from the clothes hanging rod, and underneath keep a mother or 2, as well as another 10 gal dwc bucket for vegging. so basically, we take cuttings off the mother, let them root in the aero-cloner for 2 weeks, then move to the lower part of the closet to veg next to the mother(s) for 2 weeks (both fl's would be on same 18-6 light cycle).
i feel like the plan so far is solid, but here's where we can't decide .so now we'll have these two 4x4 tents which will both be strictly for flowering (each with 600w hps). obv we're going SOG style, to get the max yield out of our small spaces so i figure once a clone has rooted for 2 weeks and vegged for 2 more, it will go into one of the flowering tents for roughly 55 days.
but i'm curious how we can get the highest yields out of these tents, and so to see for myself, i thought about just doing straight SOG in one tent, keeping it filled with six buckets (with 6 net pots each = 36 total, though we won't let them get so big next time), and cycling them thru (harvesting a bucket or so every 2 weeks) ..and then for the 2nd tent, i'm thinking of trying Scrogging. they say you need roughly 1 square foot per plant, so in a 4x4 i could have a max of 16 clones to scrog ? (maybe 12 so i don't overcrowd?) i'm still trying to decide whether i should attach a screen to the tent poles, or just custom build a screen to fit each bucket (which might make nute changes much easier), but either way i really want to ScrOG at least one of the tents to find out which method works best for me. i figure if i have the tents on 2 different systems, i'll still get something every 2 weeks, but also have the added scrog bonus every month and a half.
would this make efficient use of my space? i'm open to all suggestions, so if there are any tweaks to this method you'd like to suggest, please feel free to share your thoughts! def could use some constructive criticism. sorry for such a long post, i just wanna be as detailed as possible so you know where i'm comin from.
