Why would you use molasses in hydroponics?? Please do more research before making any more platitudinous decisions.
All your gonna do is introduce pests into your hydro system,pathogens, and clunk up all your pump in other words this will result in a COMPLETE and utter failure congratulations.

Really? I've been growing for 4 years now. I used to use it years ago. But only just started to use it again. From my experience i didn't have any problems using it before but didn't see much difference with out it. Just so i don't come across like a idiot. I don't just dump it into my resivour i first mix it with hot water to dissolve the molasses then introduce it to resivour once cooled. No problems with pumps or irrigation. Just my opinion from experience

I dont know man, Al B is a pro. I take his words to heart. I also have used molasses once, didnt see a difference, maybe the plants really cant digest it.

If you're in Hydro, then you aint gonna see any benefit. In soil, carbs feed the mycorrhizal fungi and bacteria in the soil, and thus benefit the plant.

I have used molasses in hydro before...many times...I do the same dilute in water and warm it up in a pot so it doesn't make a mess in pumps and tubing.......it may not have the same benefits as it does in soil but it will enhance flavor and aroma.......everybody comments on things they have never tried or had 1 bad experience with or heard from somebody and swear they know what they are talking about

Even if you add molasses to soil it's not the plant feeding on the sugars, its the molasses feeding the bacteria in the soil converting it into a viable product that the roots can then uptake.

Dude, I have used it, albeit in soil, not hydro and still do sometimes just to jump start the micro-colony. Al B. Fuct certainly knows his shit when it comes to Hydroponics, so his knowledge isn't EVEN in question here. Some base their knowledge in science, not folk-lore.

Duh...but that is not the reason for giving plants molasses in hydroponics....I have done side by side comparisons with the same clones and same strains with same everything 1 group molasses one group no molasses......the group with molasses looked no different grew no different....everything looked exactly the same....only difference was smell......then after being harvested and cured the batch with molasses definitely tasted and smelled different.....so if you want to add a little flavor and aroma molasses does work.....but only for that.......

I still will use molasses for hydro when I do grow hydro......I like the taste it gives the buds.....

Man, I tried mollasses in hydro toward the end of the cycle.. I thought it would sweeten the product... My shit had been growing perfectly and the water temps were perfect.... my roots were perfect.. added that shit and the plants showed signs of stress in a few days, lifted one out of the bucket and found perfectly white slime covering everything... Chopped those bitches and swore never to use mollasses again...

If you use h202 then your molasses is not getting broken down or absorbed by plants, it just sits there. Molasses must be decomposed by microbes before it can be absorbed by roots. (as with any complex organic compound) In the end you simply have a little more fertilizer(energy), so just add some hydro-booster to begin with. I like florablend and liquid light for energy supplements. If you do insist on adding molasses, you should add beneficial microbes as well. If you prefer to keep a sterile res, you could brew the bennies and molasses in an aerated tea for a few days outside of the res and then add it. The bennies will die when you add them to a sterile res, but the molasses will already be broken down and available for roots by then.

Hi Jack. Oh I lurk around but most of my time is spent over in the philosophy section defending science and reason, or researching questions from my microbe thread. I tend to stay out of growing convos unless I have a definitive way to help. I see you often doing the same.
and BTW, I forgot to suggest that all growers, even hydro guys, make an effort to learn about the soil food web. Balance your knowledge of what happens above the ground with what happens below.
