So, can someone who practices Rastafari explain the basic tenets and premise of the religion to me?

Pure curiosity. Exploring, I guess. I believe in God, but I believe that God's not as condemning as most modern, mainstream religions attest that He/She/It is. If God exists, God created sin as well as indulgence, and I can't see a God wanting us to suffer throughout life without indulging. I don't believe in a definite, inherent good or a bad, but I do have a benevolent, cautious, humanistic view on the world. If God is not a figure or deity, I feel that we are all connected through a collective unconscious, that we are connected through one mind or spiritual vein that tends to sway us towards a perceived right or wrong without being told, experiencing all possibilities simultaneously through various perspectives.

In any case, I did want to learn about certain taboo or underground-like religions, such as Haitian Voodoo, Rastafari, Santeria, and other more Heathen or Pagan religions as well. Any input will be helpful. Clowning is kind of expected to be par for the course.

I guess it's more that I'd rather hear from practitioners than doctrine, really. Like, what it means to them.
