snails slugs and slimy mothers

so i want to know the best way to keep them out of the garden, since exterminating them totally is near impossible, i am looking at protecting individual plants, so i set up a medium sized ring of copper around each plant in hopes that it will do the trick.

i also made an experiment, where i set up a large copper ring, and plopped about 6 snails in the center of it... they just meandered around and didnt leave the ring, unless i put a piece of wood right next to the outside of the ring, leaning up against it. sooo, i think that the copper thing works, but not totally... i want something that will f*cking kill these bastards because they ate alot of my plants so far!! :(

oh and as of that little obstacle course of pennies, they wouldnt cross over the pennies until about 5 minutes later, one finally crossed over them, and the other just gave up and wouldnt move at all.. it seems that they couldnt rationalize that there was an escape route, and the younger one had the balls to climb over the copper, but the older one gave up.

so i bought ORTHO BUG-GETA, and it seems to be some powerful stuff, i layed 3 pounds of it on the ground in large clumps(u rnt supposed to do that, but my plants arent in the soil, they are above ground in pots) i wonder how long this stuff should last? the rain is pretty CRAZY lately, so i will visually inspect it to see how it fairs.. if i cant visably see it i will replace it... sounds right// right??

i got the same stuff its better to spread it out though, although it attracts the slugs to eat it, it only take a granual to kill one slugg so if you throw it all over the place you are much more likely to kill more sluggs. and it says on the bag up to 4 weeks... but i doubt that is with heavy rain.... or rain at all for that matter.

i just got another 4 lbs of the stuff, and spread it out like you said... i hope that they come down from the plants and go to the ground, and eat it so they die in a 50 foot radius... thats how far i spread it. i really dont see the need for the slugs and snails in our ecosystem anyways...

i had the same problem, that shit you used sounds sick. i just put a solo cup filled half way with beer and put it in the ground near my plant, the slugs are attracted to the yeast in the beer, they fall in and die. In two days i killed about sixty of those little fuckers.

haha, 60 slugs/snails? thats awesome! well unfortunately i cant put beer down because theres so much rain, unless i built a contraption that would stop water from coming in, but too much work for me, my garden is in the center of a swamp, so its difficult to keep going back there... EH!!! but anyways, this stuff killed them all!! probably like 60 THOuSAND haha... i wish i had the right numbers.
