Smoking Twice a month

I was a regular stoner for 25 years. Then quit in 2003 for health reasons. In 2012, after my health problems disappeared I started up again. After smoking again in 2012, I wanted to insure I didn’t become a regular smoker. But that didn’t happen. I became a daily stoner and that doesn’t work for me. I start to wake and bake. Or I use it to avoid work or use it when I hate what I’m doing. I use it for escape, I used it for pleasure, I used it for boredom. Since I don’t regulate it well, and inhale more than I should, It made me very tired the next day. I hate the hangovers. I would go through periods of only smoking 1/3 a gram at night, and that would work well, but then the dosage would creep up and then it sucked. I quite 7 weeks ago and the withdrawals have subsided. My life is better now. I like being sober. As a daily stoner, my day centered on thinking about getting stoned. Going off weed wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I’m in Oregon and I have easy access to CBD and CBD really helped me ease off THC gently with little withdrawals. So if I get back into a habit, I have the will power and the means to ease off again.

I know that I can’t be a weekend smoker, because it will lead back to daily toking – and I don’t want to do that. I also don’t like it when I travel and need to look for weed. So I’ve been thinking this…

I want to return to Cannabis but only twice a month (and only ½ gram on those days, and perhaps less, since my tolerance will be way down.) I would skip a month now and then to insure “I don’t need it.” I want to use it for personal growth - “spiritual” retreats – hikes in the woods, exciting day travels, seeing the world afresh, helping with life changes. I can’t forget the great stone I had in 2012 after not smoking for 9 years. It was exciting, fresh, breath-taking – so much more exciting than smoking every day. I loved the new insights it gave me that day (or thought it gave me). By becoming a daily stoner, I lose all of that - it’s not exciting and it becomes a burden.

Has anyone used it so sparingly, after being a daily smoker and have succeeded?

Any insights and tips, appreciated.

Your issues aren't with cannabis so much but with Regulations and knowing when to stop you just have to know when enough is enough for you personally and not continue

It's more so mind power really

You most likely would do it with food , alcohol , smokes and junk food as well
Typically see this in financial areas too

You need to learn to a coping mechanism that actually works so you can enjoy things but not go overboard with them

It is totally possible I would say once you have smoked what you think is good than put everything marijuana related away

Hangovers??? Withdrawals???

You sure you were smoking cannabis?
many people report "withdrawal" symptoms from stopping marijuana, its nothing like an opiate addiction but theres nothing else to call it what it is a withdrawal. just like how you withdraw from sugar or coffee
its mostly

- inability to eat
-irritability
-boredom/nothing seems pleasurable anymore typically mundane everyday tasks.

the "hangover" is probably just a grogginess or headache the next day from too much smoke inhalation, that does happen

Sunni, thanks for the tips, It's either give up weed altogether or try to see if I can moderate on a periodic basis, which I've never tried. I really don't think it suits me as a regular smoker, the desire for it keeps me from regulating it. Will give a shot and see what happens. The last time I gave up for a long period, then toked again, the second and third day after smoking I wanted really want to get stoned again, I think if I can get past that second day and third day, then I most likely will wait 2 more weeks. Also, I do like the idea of occasional stones - they are so much more brilliant.

Also I'm in my late 50's. Perhaps younger folks don't feel the 'hangover' as much. It gets worse as you get older. Of course it depends how much you smoke and the level of THC.

PKH as to withdrawals, if you doubt there are any - just visit this site: (not everyone has them, but for some it's pretty major, depends how long and how much you been smoking)

why do you people insist on comparisons.
i swear theres no talking to folk intelligently

ya no shit, you've been smoking for 30 years. it barely effects you at this point. remember when you were dodging objects on your tv? couldnt walk straight? spun when you closed your eyes?
prolly not huh...
(sorry bout the agitation )
if you have a low tolerance it acts like a much more potent full agonist. when this is the case having a long half life is apparent..no different than poppin 5 zannies, your gonna forget today tomorrow and maybe the next day.
its not exactly a dysphoric hangover like ethanol, more of a lethargic heavy effect, slowed mind etc

I used to smoke from sunrise to sunset, and then I discovered that I had to smoke three times as much as time went on, and I was getting absolutely nothing done but burn out a lot of Bic lighters.
I hear you my friend, as it sounds like it is also a problem for you, as how when you get involved with herb,, you really get involved. That is what is called an addictive personality, and I know something about that (Google it, and my picture will come up).
OK, 1st step is to set limits, don't go cold turkey, but after a hard day, light up and take ONLY 3 HITS!, If you are smoking good herb, that should do you for about 3 hours, eat dinner, have desert, watch some Seinfeld, or Breaking Bad (that show will show you the evil of drugs), and go to bed. No more herb until you get home from work the next day. (hopefully you are working).
If that works for you, great, and then if you REALLY want to limit consumption, only on weekends.
Hobbies help also, as they will take your mind off of getting high (unless you are growing herb as a hobby).
This is a hard one though, because as they say in the world off addiction, People, Places and Things are set offs to make you think about getting high. Maybe this place ain't the best place to hang out if you have a problem with pot. Know what I mean?
It's a really good step to share your dilemma, as it shows balls and acceptance of an issue that is affecting your life. With that attitude, you are well on the way of controlling your issue.
Good luck man, and it sounds like to me that you will be fine.
