I harvested some Mendocino purps. It has no smell of dankness at all. Even before i harvest i dont have the pungent odor. It kinda Smells like lawn clippings. Seems like no matter what strain I grow I always end up with bud that smells like shit. Any suggestions to why. I used promix soil. Xnutients bloom formula. Ph water between 5.8-6.1. Always in that range. At week 2 I added a tablespoon of indo bat guanno to 1 gallon of water 1 time. I cut nutes off a week early as the pistils started to turn brown and I gave them nothing but ph water.
 
I grow mostly Kush and I too find that there is very little smell from some but others can get very stinky but at the end of the day it doesn't seem to affect the quality of the bud as the THC always seems very high to me. As for taste maybe your not curing them long enough(put it in mason jars) and burp them every day for a week that should help with flavor. I'v never tried Purp's but I'm thinking of getting some beans soon and the Purp's is on the list.
P.S with Indica strains I don't go by the pistil color but rather by the color of the trichomes(when golden brown)seems to be the best time for harvest for me.
 
I did fail to mention that I'm indoors under 600 watt hps. The light is mostly on the 300 or 400 setting. Depending on the temp. I use a cool tube that uses fresh air on the intake. My buds grow nice an thick never any nute burn I'm careful that way. I realize now that its indoor weed and it doesn't get natural sun. That is the problem after reading posts here. Every post I've read comes to the same conclusion. Is there anything I can use to get closer to the suns spectral output?? I'm using hortilux eye bulbs. I also have 4-100 watt cfls in there to help the lower branches get light.
 
If it smells like grass clippings or hay, you probably dried them too fast.

Drying should take at least a week. You want a slow dry. IME temps in the mid-upper 60's with RH 50% makes for a nice slow dry/cure.

High heat during flowering can also decrease terpines. Overall, you want to raise the plant in the best environment and as healthy as possible throughout to maximize potential.

I too am in indoors as well And I'v got a 600 watt hybrid in a 4x4x6 tent. Really though bro don't worry about the smell as long as the finished product is to your liking then consider yourself lucky not having smell to alert your neighbors or the cop's. Just cure those buds right and you should be very happy.
 
Harvest right before lights would turn on. Don't do a 24/7 veg cycle as it doesn't allow carbs to store up. I like a 20/4 light cycle, and I use Humboldt honey as a carbo load. It looks like you're organic so maybe u can use unsulphered organic blackstrap molasses. Look into carbs and also maybe too much N will cause it to smell like chlorophyll because of excess N
 
I hang dry for a week or so. Until they get crisp on the outside. Then I cut,trim put in a glass jar. I leave the lid off for a few days because they get too wet again if I close the jar. I leave the jar closed overnight then I open it for about 12 hrs then I close it again. I do that for a week. Roughly. I leave some stems long so I have some to snap or bend. If they snap I lock the jar up for a couple weeks. Opening it only to test a bud or two by smoking. Good high but the taste and smell aren't there. I keep my temps 60-65 generally when lights off. When on between 74-83*. I have seen the temp go as high as 87. But only for a very short period. Maybe an hour at most. I have cut some buds early late 6th week thru week 8. Same shit. Lots of frosting. On the bud and leaves it even looks chrystalish under light. It sparkles real nice.

Thats a great regime. I don't understand why your getting bad tasting buds. Makes me believe your using to much nitrogen but even if that was the case you would still be getting good to great tasting bud. Sorry can't help ya.
 
Sounds like too much Nitrogen to me. That's why u are get that lawn clipping smell. An abundance of N can cause the plant to keep producing more and more Chlorophyll, like its trying to veg. Like it was said before if the quality is good then don't sweat it. A good cure should bring out the smell and the flavor u are looking for. Good Luck and Happy Smoking. :bigjoint:
 
Yes I think it's dried too fast. The weather here on the east coast is so erratic it was in the hi 90's when I clipped the few buds for sampling. I cut two down just before my lights came on and I'm gonna try a slower drying time. I left all the fan leaves on,they are hanging upside down. Is it necessary to cut the pistils off when I trim it. My sample buds were very hairy and I want to kno if that would change the taste.

Your complaining about bad tasting bud: Tip, cut those fan leaves of while your drying you don't want anymore chlorophyll .
Clean up those buds before drying. trim everything of you can leave the pistils but get rid of the fan leaves. If you leave the leaves on when drying the chlorophyll will seep right back into the bud giving you the bad taste. Wish you had said this when you started this thread because this is exactly why your getting bad taste. Also dry hanging in a room for two week's test to see if you can snap a stock by bending if it breaks easily then there ready for curing. Put bud in mason jars and open the lid every day for 20 min or so, do this for a week and you will get great tasting bud.
 
It's simple the pot your growing simply isn't dank, if at any time it tastes like hay, it fails the dankness test... I can cut a bud and microwave it, and it still is flavorful... Keep looking you'll find it :)
 
It could just be sub-par genetics. do you maintain the mother that your clones were taken from? Have you ever grown cuttings from same mother before? If you don't have any obvious environmental or nutrient issues, I would consider the genetics you are using. It's happened to me before. Chronic is one of my favorite strains. I grew it for years form my own mother with very reliable and stinky results. I got rid of the mother a few years ago. I went to grow some chronic about a year ago and got cuttings from someone who had a mother from seed. (turns out the person had never actually flowered any cuttings from their mother). Not having any idea that I was a guinnea pig for this mother, I grew out 30 of them. They looked great right up until finish. They smelled like lawn clippings. Was actually frosty and the high was decent but even aftger sitting in a jar for 2 months, it still barely had any nose. I know a few others that grew cuttings from the same mother and we all had the same results.. So sometimes, you have to just consider the genetics that you are using. Always try and make sure you are using cuttings from a known quality mother and try and make sure that the mother is in prime shape when your cuttings are taken..
 
I did suffer a tiny mite problem. Blasted the plants with neem oil. That was during the veg. The flowering plants were clean. No mites or insects at all. They budded nicely. Nice pine cone sized nuggs.
