So I'm about to get started on a scrog grow that'll probably occupy most of my grow box for the next 100 days or so. However, I'm already thinking ahead to what I will be doing with this grow space going forward.
The downside of maintaining this as a scrog is I really can only have a single plant (or at most two plants) flowering at any given time. Since I like me some sativas, and I've picked one that people report sometimes going 70 to 90+ days of flowering (Dinafem Super Silver), I'm going to have pretty long gaps between harvests.
One idea I'm floating around is using 1-quart yogurt containers (something our household goes through at a high rate) for a perpetual SOG. I'm talking about these, essentially:
I could even add the first 2 containers while my scrog is in place -- giving them a month or two lead time before harvesting the scrog -- and then add 2 more each month thereafter, giving me a 30-day gap between harvests. The source of new plants will be clones, which I'll be maintaining in a separate clone/mother chamber. I prefer to grow in soil, but might consider other mediums if something would work better here. I don't really want to get into hydro or aero or anything like that yet. I'd also like to be able to water no more than once a day, preferably every other day or so, though I might be convinced to automate the watering a little bit if more frequent watering is necessary for such a small container.
I've never tried flowering small plants, so I'm not sure how small is too small. Especially for a sativa that might need to be in that container for 100 days or so. Would a quart be too small? Yogurt is sold by weight, but I used a measuring cup to see how much water it holds, and it's about 33 or 34oz, so roughly a quart.
Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated!
