Never heard that before... and I've heard some good ones. Such as: female seeds spin faster. you can balance female seeds on their point. And something about how you can guarantee females from seed by feeding your sprouts certain nutes... all of those I do NOT believe, and don't recommend anyone believe.
If you need females because of space problems or you just don't wanna screw with males... just buy feminized seeds.

I'd believe that more than "small seeds are fem"... Its quite possible that a certain sub-species of cannabis would have a particular sized seed

Indeed. Indica-dominant seeds tend to be larger, pure Sativa seeds smaller. If I remember correctly, and that is by no means set in stone but it is genetically geared.

Seed size is meaningless. Means nothing. Hardness, color and the seeds actual genetics is what's important. Stay away from wherever you read that nonsense.

I love all the replies above lol .. Lets not forget that before seed banks people threw away most small seeds unless they were genetically predisposed to be small ..

I've never heard the size thing, but so far, since I got it, this chart has worked for me 4 out of 4 times.
And, even looking at "Fem" seeds, they adhere to the standards shown in the chart.

This Hypothesis about seeds and Hilum characteristics has been circulated before on cannabis boards and it made its way into a book or two as well as a few magazines if my memory serves me well . Most people agree that there is just too much genetic difference among seeds and strains .. This is just another growers myth according to the majority ..
I would like to see how small seed varieties look under a scope and how the variables in seed harvesting could change the shape of the Hilum as well ..
Hilum : The scar or mark left on a seed from its previous attachment to the ovary wall .

I've read articles written by breeders (among others) who say you get a higher ratio of females under the right conditions with regular seeds. That container size and environmental factors can influence a plant into being male or female and seedlings under the slightest amount of stress will tend towards being male 50% of the time; in other words that the sex isn't predetermined and you can get a higher percentage of females under such conditions.
I have also seen this chart before, anyone happen to know where it was originally printed? It would be interesting to put into context with whatever other information was in that publication. But, if it were true it seems to me that 'feminized' seeds would be selected in that manner as opposed to being bred to be feminized seeds as they are.

I heard that you get more females with a 16 hour light cycle, rather than the standard 18, during the seedling stage... I don't know if its true... rumors, gotta love them

My impression was that he posted it to try and get responses like this, not that he believed what he was "asking". He doesn't claim to be issuing a fact. Less troll, more social experiment.
I have not read the entire thread yet - but he liked my response which disagreed with him. Why would he do that if he was invested in the idea? To me he was doing the psychological equivalent of a knee jerk test - with a rather sadly predictable response. I mean what is wrong with discussing, and then dismissing ideas?
