sleepwalking flowering plants with pure blue leds in what would be the dark cycle.

so i was reading ed's first manual, wire bound 1979. what i found odd was that he says the induction of red light, as well as light cycle triggers flowering in cannabis. also he says certain varietys, mostly indicas can flower with up to 16 hours of light. he later admits that 12 hours was reccomended to induce flowering in about any. so we started with an afgani x black domina cross. giving it 16 hours of quad band led light, it flowered without any problems in 52 days. it seemed more dense and flavorfull than our control plant under a digilux 600w. the nutes were the same, media was pro mix hp for soil consistancy. so we decided to try to push it further. we built 3 90w pure blue led lights, switched the quad band leds back to 12 hours on. when the normal 12 hour cycle finished we turned on the blue leds for a additional 8 hours. the hemaphroditic respose was anticipated, but unseen. the plants flowering time shortened from 52 to 50 days, yeild was up by 23 grams on the blue run! we have since tryed it on a few strains with varying results. the closer we strayed from indica, the higher the hermie response. exmple- it worked with hash plant, but not with jack herer. it worked with menicino madness but not with cheese. i love the led revolution and wanted to share this info.

Thanks for the input. i have experimented with prolongated flowering daytime but up to now i never tryed more than 90 extra minutes. I stop cause the yield increase was insignificant

I just smoked some sweet bud the grower told me was stressed into flowering by the increase of daylight and continued into 14 hr days and damn was it frosty!

You know this is something that has, and always will interest the led growing community. What is the blue nm wavelength? Is it the same distance as the other lights or higher up? Have you tried making an infrared 740nm panel to convert pfr to pr to shorten the night cycle as well? It seems hard to find low NM leds from reputable manufacturers but Alibaba seems to have some ok solutions, although it is a catch 22. Do you buy high quality, but not the perfect nm, or do you get just what you want from a outsourced vendor who may not deliver what they promise? Maybe even this with custom spectrum http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/553589021/50w_high_power_led_matrix_with.html
Post some pictures of the lights in action!!!!
Sincerely,

If it's got good simple genetics it's probably a good candidate for this, i.e. Skunk #1, Cheese, maybe Northern Lights. Sativas probably hate this technique though. And 23 grams seems like a huge increase for an average LED grow to me oregonism99 so pics and more info would cure my inner skeptic. Not that I'm calling you a liar, it's just that you get a lot of claims in the LED world and very few are true.

Arghh, it's lame when a cool thread like this just opens up, and then what, do I just assume it's all lies because it hasn't been updated? Well damn, looks like I'm going to have to buy a 10w blue 455nm led to run at night in my tester cabinet. I don't mind wasting some watts flowering out a 1 gallon plant that may explode at any second.

I suppose I shouldn't complain since I have my fair share of not following up on threads, but damn, not a single picture!?!

I'm going to start my own thread, with black jack, and hookers! But seriously this would be a great way to increase either yields, or total yields over time via shortening the flowering period. Also I'm going to try out a 730nm light, which starts plants flowering sooner when implemented outdoors. Increased yields and decreased flowering time are often the sign of a sure fire gimic. I guess it would be easy to see the difference in a direct side by side...

LovePlants, are you going to post your results? I would love to see a follow up on this theory. I believe this should work, however I am not in a current position to test this. Sidd
