Single Waterfall RDWC Tote: Critique My Idea!

Hey all,

New to hydroponics. I'm an avid soil grower and the closest to hydro I've gotten is hempy buckets. However, I like new things and am interested in giving DWC a shot.. (I'd like ebb & flow but I have height restrictions). My idea is this:

  • 27 or 38 gallon hdx tote (yellow/black).
  • Eliminate the air stones by using an external dc marine pump to suck the resevoir water out of the bottom and pump it back in at the top (pvc with a slit cut for a water curtain?)
  • 3 net pot nodes and a fourth hole for maintenance.access
  • Cover all holes with plates for light leak
  • Potential idea: pump on a timer 3x per day for 5 minutes, drip irrigation {good or bad idea?}
  • Question: do Peltier coolers work at all?
Thanks!

Ebb n flow is doable with only using like 14-15". Similar to a buckets height.

Peltier's can't cool more than 5-10gal a degree or two. Chillers are much better an option.

Cheaper on Amazon.
It's branded as Ice Probe.
They have weird controllers though... But VaderVision YouTube channel just built a micro Rdwc system with only like 5 gals using an ice probe and its more than efficient.

IceProbe is a smaller chiller from different company. I spoke with the folks at the place I linked and their stats claim better cooling than the IceProbe. With my upcoming 20-25 gal setup I may try it out, just put it on an Inkbird controller and let it do its thing.

wonder how much that thing would heat up the room the res is in? kinda like a big version of a cpu cooler.

No idea but after my current run I'll be trying a new waterfall system out and that little do-dad might be better than using the other chiller I have. I could use that elsewhere.
