Hey guys, I'm looking to do my first qwiso run and I have a question for . I've read that u need to have 99% isopropyl alcohol but I can only find 91%. So I guess I'm going to buy some ever clear to use. So my question is are the steps all the same when using grain alcohol (everrclear). Or to do quick wash I need isopropyl alcoho? . Thanks for the help..

Good luck kid

Quick wash extraction using Ethanol is usually referred to as QWET and we usually start with about a 3 minute soak at about 0F, while Isopropyl quick wash is QWISO and we start with about a 20 second wash.[/QUOTE

Outstanding! Which do you prefer? I'm most likely going with qwet but I still like the input.

I use Ethanol and do a QWET or a deep subzero soak for longer below -50C using dry ice to cool the ethanol first.
Cool. So would u say that the ethanol extract is as good/strong or more preferable to iso? At least to u? And would I do fine without the dry ice Process? I'm looking to try n make shatter not the Rick Simpson. That stuff is just to much a pain in the ass to work wwith and I just don't care for it. I've got probably a oz of good bud to run and just want to make sure I don't turn it into a pile of garbage.. I'll probably do half to see how well it turns out. I've been looking for a good tutorial and I've seen a few but most look like there done half assed. I just assume doing it the same exact way as an iso run but going 3min instead of 30sec.. thanks for the help man .

Go with the dry ice qwet,in my opinion. Dry ice can be found at grocery stores, some convenience stores,or even local ice cream shops. I get mine from an ice cream shop and it is only $1.75 a pound plus tax. You can lock most of the undesirables, like water and lipids, in ice so that they won't be in your extraction. Fadedawg is an expert and has many tutorials on skunkpharm site.

Both QWET and QWISO work, but I prefer ethanol extracts. As QRS notes, cooling with dry ice below -50C is even better, in that it excludes most of the undesirables. It makes a killer dabbing pull and snap.

RSO is usually made by refluxing, which extracts loads of chlorophyll when you use alcohol, and produces a runny extract.

Could u explain the sub zero soak. I've tried looking some videos up but they were talking about bho.

Place source material in jar or jars. Place ethanol, empty jar/s,material,and dry ice in a large enough container. Keep everything in the container long enough to really freeze. Usually about 45 minutes to an hour. You can facilitate the process by putting everything in a regular freezer for 24-48 hours before beginning. Then pour ethanol into jar with material place back into cold container and agitate every few minutes. After 15-20 minutes of soak, drain through 2 unbleached coffee filters.

15 to20min? That seems like a long time.. I thought for ethanol u were suppose to give about a 3min soak?

Info is in this thread. Fadedawg states that after things are-50 it gets a longer soak. Regular freezer temp with qwet is 3 minutes or so but can soak longer with subzero due to undesirables being locked in ice. Everything is to be subzero before combining ethanol and plant material. Hope that clears it up for you.

I suggest using stainless containers to avoid breakage from thermal shock, and freezing the material to around 0F in the freezer. Set the container in a larger container and pack sides in dry ice.

Put the ethanol in a large enough stainless container to leave room for dry ice. Add dry ice until the solution falls below -50C and add the subzero ethanol to the plant material and stir. Soak time can be extended from about three minutes with QWET, to over 10 minutes without extracting undesirables like chlorophyll.

Pour through a strainer to rapidly separate the liquid, and then filter and process as normal.

Wear gloves and a face shield to avoid burns.

Thanks Fade, and QRS For clarifying that. I just got ssom bad info that though me off. What u described Fade was basically how i did it in a ice chest with dry ice. It looks wonderful and is winterizing right now in the dry ice until I get home this afternoon. One question, I don't have a vac chamber to purge so is it correct to set let it sit in a hot water bath around 100°F?
Again, thanks guys..

If you don't have a vacuum chamber, you can put it out in a pie plate or casserole dish in a thin layer to evaporate. Setting it in hot water or on a heat mat at 100/135F will speed it up.

My second pull doesn't have that white coagulation. Just wondering if u could elaborate on what it is.
A mixture of water, ethanol, and terpenes will make a white solution. After most of the alcohol is gone, the remaining water will turn a beige color.
