SILENT Generators

Hi
Just wondering has anyone tried using a generator to provide power to their lights etc. I'm moving shortly, and I may consider purchasing a generator. There are quite a few silent generators on the market which could provide the correct output.
However petrol is approx 1.50 euro per Ltr, and my approx guess is it would cost 1 euro per hour to run the generator.
Maybe this is not such a good idea...........

Silent Diesel generators are very exp.

If yer way out in the country off the grid or an isolated location a jenny is a must but it's gonna cost you to run it.
Good to have wired in for power outages but to fuel an entire smaller/hobbyist grow the fuel costs would be insane.

Better off paying the power company for a cheap, clean and reliable power source.

imho

But then what the heck do I know anyhow? I'm a stoned stoner lost in the Labs,,,,,,,,,,,

wind turbines for the home seem a good idea, some generate in excess of 1000watts. we dont get a massive amount of sun in the uk, but it sure is windy, im putting serious consideration into this in the coming years

As far as I know even the "silent" generators are not so silent. It is still a engine that you have to run, and you need to exhaust the gas out somewhere so you must think about where you are going to put it. These things are generally not made to be run 12hour plus, and you prob would need to run it 24/7, it wont work to only use that, save your money and pay the electiricy bill. Rather think about the power the use, you need to run both lights etc etc it depends on your setup.

I`ve got one and i`ts about as loud as a car engine on tickover.when running it,it needs filled every 1-1+1/2hours,it gets through the fuel quickly and is meant for short term solutions rather than constant use.

I have some generators, not for running the lights, but for mining.

I think quietest ones' are the Honda's. I have a smaller one the E2000 which is continuous rated for 1600+ watts. At quarter power they are rated for 15 hours a gallon.

I also have loud & stinky ones. You have to dig a 3 foot hole in the ground and cover them with plywood to keep the noise down.

Generators have their place. :weed:

take an old 200 gallon fuel oil pig-

bury it in the ground. plump your exhaust into it. then another pipe of equal value, back out of the ground with two L's on it for water proof. you will be able to hear the valve train in the head. that's it.
