Should I tie my branches down?

I'm currently in week 3 of veg, and plan on forcing flower when my plants are approximately 18" tall. But, I have a question to all you experienced growers.

Does tying down the branches always produce a bigger yield. I have plenty of head room btw... about 7-8 feet, so space isnt a problem, but I am willing to try anything that will increase yield. Should I start tying down during veg, or flowering, or at all? Is it guaranteed to help; I just need some input on this.

what tying down does is open up the branches to more light and more growth on branches. also if you have limited height space.

Here’s my theory on training your plants (topping, LST, ScrOG, etc.). You all are welcome to beat me up :).

You can train your plants to control vertical height, but you also train your plants to maximize horizontal canopy exposure to the light, IF NECESSARY, to maximize yield. Whether or not you train your plants to maximize yield depends in large part on how many plants you’re growing and how powerful your light is.

For instance, let’s say you’re using a 400 watt HID which will effectively light a 3’ X 3’ area (9 square feet). And let’s say you are growing 3 plants in that area. In this case you would want to aggressively top or LST your plants so that each plant has a 3 square foot canopy of colas during flowering. Any more than that and you’re starting to diminish returns by crowding out the plants. Of course, this method will increase veg time, but decrease the penalty if busted, depending on where you live.

Now let’s say you’re growing nine plants in the same area. Now each plant only needs to fill a 1 square foot area, and you would not need much, if any, training, you may even want to lollipop them. Veg time is decreased, but possible penalties may be increased.

In both cases, the yield should be close to the same. But method two (Sea of Green) should give you more yield OVER TIME.

I also believe that the effects of training decrease the more powerful your light is. In other words, under a 1000 watt light that can penetrate the canopy really well all training really does is make a whole lot of smaller colas instead of fewer monster colas.

yes it does ill easy it up for you.. Say you have four main tops. Tie down your the largest and tallest ones u wanna pull hold them down stay at a lower point then the smallest top thats left that will then take extra hormones and shit from the stalk and branches. I guess it think its the alpha. But after that small top grows go to the next smallest now Nd wash rinse and repeat.. It does work great . And opening em up works awesome to but to me I use them differently but all toe downs begin by opening her up. We call it spreading her legs haha keep it up.
