Should I mulch my marijuana plant?

I normally grow all my marijuana indoors. I prefer the controlled environment. But I decided to try one outdoors this summer. One of my favorite strains, Wedding Cheesecake auto, in a 50/50 mix of coco and FFOF.

My wife and I are avid gardeners. We grow 40 tomatoes each year, and heavily mulch our whole garden. We use this high quality chopped wheat mulch. Really retains moisture in the heat of the summer. See photo.

So, should I also mulch my marijuana plant? I see photos of outdoor plants, and I never seem to see mulch.
Thoughts?

i would leave a gap around the stem, but yes, mulching is geat for adding nutes. but ui don't know how it will react with the sun being so hot. might harden it up, just my 2 cents, hope its helpfull :weed:

of course, it will be in the shade of the plant, so go for it, rain off the plant will drip food directly into the roots. stoned again lol :bigjoint:

Mulch is great for water retention, but also great for the soil microbes. A lot of them live within the first couple inches of your soil. Drybacks and high temps are not good for them, and mulch helps to remedy this, by shading the soil surface and slowing evaporation.

Yes! Keeps the root zone cool on those scorching hot days and retains moisture. Also makes a great habitat for soil life--just peek under the mulch after it's been down a while and you'll see what I mean.
