Yep read this article too. Good tips and stuff.
Here she is 1 week after starting this thread. Figured Id give an update so its here for newbies to review. She has somewhat recovered from the calcium deficiency but she is drinking a ton of water/nutes now so it kind of came back when I cut back on the nutes. I did give her vegamatrix big n sticky twice....So just going to ride her out the next 2 weeks or so and probably start flushing her maybe next week. Dinafem says 70 days to flower. She will be at day 67 from seed at the end of February...
I typically will flush 14 days (normally on monday) before harvest with plain water and then the following monday will give her 2 gallons of ice cold water and put her in the dark for 2-3 days then harvest her....
It was hard to get good pics of the trichs but if that will help I will try again. Im using a jewelers loupe and then using my phone camera to take the pic.
Now comes the hard part trying to figure out when to flush/harvest...if anyone can make any suggestions on timing id be up to hearing them...I think about 2 more weeks...
Here are the pics:
lookin good, you might want to up the cal mag a little
yep was thinking the same thing. I have the vegamatrix boost coming today or tomorrow so Ill def hit her with a little more. This is the only issue i had with her but it really was a pain in my ass and im sure affected yield.
I am pretty sure it was the soil (Dr. Earth - nothing against the soil I just know that it cant fuck with Stonington Blend). Yea SB costs $30 a bag and dr. earth $12, but the extra $18 is well worth it and relieves a lot of headaches on the early on stages of growth. I dont normally have any issues with Veg. FLowering is where i start running into my problems. Partly it could be the light the other could be just me. i used (temporarily because i ran out of my first choice) because i didnt have any calcium deficiencies on previous plants when i used the other soil.
@Roger A. Shrubber: SO the calc deficiency is showing up on some of the sugar leaves/leaves with trichs on them. I normally have been saving my trimmings to make hash out of. If you make bubble hash, would you still use the leaves that look all jacked up with trichs on them? Im guessin the answer is yes because we want the trichs and the way the leaf looks has nothing to do with making hash? It wont be bad to use the shitty looking leaves would it be?
ALso if you know, how long can you keep trimmings in the freezer before they should be used to make hash? Im going to google it now lol but always rather have a response from a good grower...
yeah, as long as there are trichs on the leaves, you can make hash out of them.
i'm not sure how long you can keep shake and popcorn in the freezer, i'd say at least 6 months, maybe as long as a year if you have it in a well sealed container. i get about a gallon jug of good trim and popcorn a month, from trimming 3 plants, usually, one every ten days or so.
that will usually make me 3 or 4 good sized chunks that add up to about half an oz, which is about what it takes me to get to next month.
i make dry ice hash, but i'm sure the yield would be close to the same from bubble hash, just sorted into different grades. i have 3 grades of screen, but i've just been using the 110 for a long time. i like what it produces, it might not be as "pure" as it could possibly be, but it already makes me wander around in my small house, trying to remember why i got up to begin with.
also, i try not to let the stuff in the freezer thaw out at any time, it turns into a mushy lump of shit if you do
Do you just save the sugar leaves or the fan leaves as well? I dont see many visible trichs on the fan leaves but with a scope im sure you would be able to see some...
LMAO - yeah i cant wait to start sleep walking myself. lol. yeah i was thinking about 6 months to a year and i am quick to add my trimmings to the freezer. normally I will just throw the new trimmings in a new sandwich bag and then add to the tupperware container i have in the freezer. If i have small stuff ill just quickly open the bag in freezer and just add it in there and close it up quickly to avoid condensation build up. Then back in the freezer she goes. They trimmings are crispy as anything...lol
I do wash my bud and trimmings tho - and then also dry and then cure them for about 2-3 days. Not sure if that does a thing but it makes me feel good doing it. lol.
yeah I will have 2 plants every 3-4 months based on my space and grow limitations.
Ill be saving all of the trimmings now and bagging em.
i don't bother with fan leaves, just sugar leaves and any small under developed popcorn from the bottom of the canopy
Update on the progress. First flush done today in her. Will let her sit under my skylight for the week and then on Sunday give her 3 gallons of ice cold water then chop her on Tuesday. This is all dependent on how she looks by then. I’m hoping she just gets on with her business by then becusse I can’t put her back into th grow space with the others...
Wash the buds.
Will give her the semi final trim after the wash and then dry the trimmings in paper bag for about 3-4 days then cure them in a jar for a week or so then they go to the freezer pack for hash later.
Will then dry the buds for 7-10 days, unfortunately most likely in the grow space as i have no other good space to do in so I’ll probably hang just above the other plants (but only will Go in space after they have hung dried for an hour so they don’t drip on the other plants). I did make a 2 smaller boxes for drying and I’ll probably use that for as much as I can fit in there and put the rest in the grow space.
After they are dry, I’ll do a final trim to get anything I missed on semi final trim.
Ok I’ve babbled long enough lol. I plan on only getting better and focusing on increasing my yields.
For all of those wondering why sitting underneath skylight - well it’s because the 2 photos I have going now have kicked her out to the curb lmao... they don’t need anyone stealing their space and light...so I have to let her sit under the natural light coming through skylight and the overhead lamp I leave on to make sure when gets some form of lighting. Just hope this doesn’t make her go craazy...
I think you are early ... My 2 ¢
Oh yeah def i agree 100%. I also thinks its early for sure. but as stated above I didnt have room in the grow space with my two photos growing wildly now during their first week and a half of stretch.
So I am waiting this week out and giving them a look on Friday and if she still looks like she got more to give will just give her a light feeding and give her another week.
The only thing is that she will be under just my skylight and the overhead light which is nothing in terms of watts. Do you think 2 weeks without the LED lighting will be ok for her? I dont expect much from the lack of lighting but tbh I dont have much other options at this point. The sour diesel just took longer than I expected. She will be at 71 days now from seed which is 1 day over the seeds stated mark. So i figured another 10-14 days after what they really say is where I should be. So if that is the case I would be at march 14 for harvest. But considering my predicament do i just keep her as is under the skylight lighting which is minimal at best and the top lighting which is little to nothing...
Now I could take out the photos tomorrow (Friday) when I water them and put the sour under the light for 2 hours and let the photos sit out under a regular bulb while the sour takes in the light - would that even benefit her or not really?
The photos shouldnt be affected much at all imo. they shouldnt be stressed too much.
I am atm looking up some small grow bulb from Walmart to at least give it something besides what it has for the last 2-3 weeks. I just cant see myself cramming her in with the photos especially when one of them is really in beast mode right now. She may end up being 4+ feet. I only have 2 feet to give lol.
And how much longer iyo do you think? I need to get a better scope to use
looks like a while yet, still a lot of white pistils, no reddish tinge at all to the leaf trichs, i'd say possibly as much as a month
Yikes well off I go to Walmart to buy a plant lamp to give it something in the interim. Not much I can do about it ...
If I put her back under the lights she will crowd the heck out of the 2 photos I have going.
I have her perched up close to skylight and will put her in the non used bathroom with a plant lamp for another 2-3 weeks. I estimated her being done around middle of month.
I’ll also light feed her again tomorrow or maybe just give her recharge, Molasses and coco water for the remainder of the grow.
I did flush her once and will do another flush the week before harvest.
Tbh I’m at a loss for what to do lol. Will be Consulting with my grower comrade and will make a plan after that...lol
Yeah give her some weeks , they will only get better.
One thing I’ll have to learn in growing bud is patience. If I had some to smoke on I’d be even more patient.
Trichs are mostly clear and some cloudy. Hoping she plumps up more. The only issue is that she won’t have such a high intensity as she would if she was under the light.
Do I maybe get two plant lamps or I wonder if one will suffice to get the job done? I’m not worried with hurting yield as there is nothing I can do and I don’t want to break the bank with having to buy more lights to keep her under them. So the most economical option for me is what I’m looking for.
I’m saving to get 6 quantum boards in April and use the qbs for my next grow run after the 2 photos are harvested. Thinking about mid May I’ll have the new qbs going. I’d probably sell my 4 month old new LED or maybe keep it for a backup or use for a vegging light if I have the grow space occupied. This way I can start off another two plants under the LED and then switch to the qbs once the grow space is open.
You can grab a T5 setup at Home Depot ...mnothing too fancy just enough to finish them.
Patience is THE HARDEST part. It's like cooking , you got to wait til ready.
Immature buds undermine the end result , it is a racy high. If you are noticing some cloudy then they are maturing. Forget looking for ambers ... Some strains don't even Amber. Look for a high amount of cloudy versus clear. Pistils ( hairs ) will turn orange/red and recede back. Look at pics of harvest ready buds to get the idea.
You went this far , don't cut yourself short.
What size space are you trying to light with quantum. You said you wanted 6 of them , but you can power a 5x5 space with just 4 with the right driver.
4x4 - but i like to be able to keep them as close as possible and dial back the boards and have them about 8-10" from the plants and also cover almost 100% of my grow space. I was also thinking for future plans when I will be making the space a little bigger so I would need more lighting coverage. This way I can just add two QBs to the mix and have a total of 8 for a 10x10ish space...
No amber yet for sure. Some cloudy, some clear - Just checked them. Just dont want to cut too soon. Im already annoyed I had to take her out of the box but Id rather focus the space on my two photos going. The one I have out of the space is a sour diesel auto. There are a few pistils that are still very white and have not receded yet...I did get a plant light and have that pointed at the plant for now as well. Just not sure if I want to invest in anymore grow stuff besides buying my QB items. I also dont really have the space for me to do it and be stealth about it. At least right now I have it upstairs locked in the spare bathroom that no one ever uses.
I just hope she can mature to her fullest now with the minimal lighting...
Deciding between 6 QB132s (2700k) or 6 QB120s (3000k). I really wanted to get the 3000k but the 120s are the older version and I get 72 more total diodes if I get the 6 QB132s.
Kind of up in the air now...
Update on Sour Diesel...
Today was Harvest Day - Cut buds off, washed the buds, trimmed the buds and now hey are now going to dry for 6-7 days then perform the final trim before placing them in curing jars for as long as possible (i say as long as possible as I am out of medicine and will start trying some of it out very very soon).
I flushed her on February 27, then on March 4, I flushed her with cold water (35 degrees or so), then turned lights out until the next day when I harvested her.
Here are the pics the day before harvest (yesterday):
