I don't believe it.. If you punch somebody when they're biting your tongue, you're probably going to lose part of your tongue.. Its an instinctive response to clinch your teeth when threatened/attacked.. The human head can take MUCH more abuse in that state than with a lose jaw..
My assumption is she didn't cooperate so that she'd have footing to attempt to extort money from him in exchange for verifying his story..
