Setting up SOG grow rooms

I have been doing research for a few days and finding conflicting/unclear information so I am posting all the questions I have about setting my grow room(s) up. I am planning on setting up a flood table with a sea of green type grow. I have a 4X5X10 foot closet and a 3X2X6 foot closet to work with. I have only grown in soil in the past so all I really have so far is a 400W light and some experience.

My plan right now is to put a flood table in the larger closet (the flowering room) and buy another light to use along with the 400W light. Since I will have two lights in the room I'm thinking one should be MH and the other HPS for a more full spectrum. Does it make sense to use both types of light or should they both be HPS?

Secondly, what total wattage do I need for this flowering room? I think another 400W would keep everything even but it seems like that would be more light than I need (800W total), especially since the plants are going to be short (SOG). There's so much conflicting info on the proper wattage/sq foot.

Since I want to keep my plants short I'm thinking my second room 2X3 should just be used to keep a mother plant (What wattage do I need for just a single plant?). I would then take rooted clones from the mother straight to the flowering room (no veg time).

Lastly, In the flowering room I would like to have 2 different groups of plants at 2 different levels of growth for more frequent but smaller harvests. So, lets say I buy a 4X4 flood table, it seems like I should be able to have 16 plants grown SOG style, right? So I could start 8 plants and then add 8 more about a month and a half later. I figure this cycle would allow me to harvest 8 plants about every month and a half.

It seems like it may be problematic to have two different groups on the same flood table though. When the first group of 8 is getting close to harvest I would need to flush them with distilled water. Would I be able to do this if I have 8 other plants on the same table that are no where near ready to harvest? Are there any other problems I would run into?

I would greatly appreciate any answers to these questions as well as any suggestions about how I should set up my grow rooms. I live in southern california and have a cannibis card so I have access to clubs as well as hydroponic shops.

Hello stranger, I can help you out. A 4x5 closet is perfect for a 4x4 hydro grow tray. On a stand of course with a reservoir below. Anything from 35-65 gallons would be fine just remember the bigger it is the less you will have to change the water. And dont worry, hydro is not as hard as it seems :bigjoint:. It does not make sense to use a MH and a HPS light in your closet. In SOG growing you want to use a MH light during the veg cycle, not the flowering cycle. Since all you have is the 4x5 closet you would prob have to switch out the MH and HPS lights when switching cycles. I would suggest vegging anywhere from 2-4 weeks and trimming you plants lollipop style. You could be really "hempy" and build a shelf above your flowering lights to veg clones on. Just thinkin :-P. So, recap. MH for veg and HPS for flower (some growwers even use HPS for both). Second, the 2 400 watt HPS lights would be very good. Cooling could be difficult but possible with good ventilation and temp control. At a gram per watt, which is what better than ameture growers will aim for, you will be able to grow 800 grams. A little less than 2 lbs. NOT BAD! Nut dont expect to max that out until your system is pretty dialed in. That is a good idea to use tht closet as a mother grow area. If you grow only one mother plant you will need to treat it with care and really pay attention to it. Kuz u only have one. Do some research on how to grow and train Bonsai Mothers. That is what I use and it works well. OOh i see that youy are not going to have ne veg tome on your plants. That makes everything a bit more difficult because clones need to be bigger and with only ine mother plant, well, you get my drift. And lastly... NO. You cannot grow plants at different stages in flowering in the same tray because they will require differnt nutrients and ppm levels. You would need to have two seperate reservoirs and trays. With only 16 plants tho I think that a pound and a half of a differnt strain every 6-8 weeks is enough variety lol. Happy SMOKIN :bigjoint::bigjoint::bigjoint:
