Setting up my first grow

So, I now have a spair room (about 1m x 1.5m) in my house, so obviously its time to grow...

I think I have the basics, but I just wanted to check it out before investing and setting up.

The plan is to grow 2 plants on a desk under a 400W HPS light with a household fan to cool the air. Then to move them onto the floor at a few inches and hang the light from the celing, still using the same fan to cool. I know I need to keep the light a few inches from the top of the plants.

Should I bother making the walls of the room reflective or buy any flo lights to light the bottom of the plants?
Anyone have any info on nutrients...which ones?...how much how often?...when to 'feed' the plants?

Any help will be very much appriciated, thanks.

alrighty !

you should buy some cfl's 23w (4) or 42w (3)[can be as many as you want the mroe the light the mroe fun

]
for side lighting

for nute's try and get fox farm products they even have a feeding chart if you get all there stuff so its easy

you wont want to feed you plants for the first 2-3 weeks

even when you do you should use 1/2 or even 1/4 of the dose said.

Alpine you just gave out your phone # ......... Just a suggestion but that probably isnt the best thing to do. Just my opinion tho ....

I use the flo lights just like the HPS, but at the sides and when i've taken the plants off the desk?

just another opinion - a 400 watt light for 2 plants is plenty - about 6,000 lumens/sq ft. you can add more light and get more bud but if you have other things to spend money on (ventilation, odor control, etc) then spend for those before you get more lights.

Would you think that I need ventalation for a bigish room with only 2 plants? I was thinking that just leaving a crack in the door with the fan sucking in from outside the room would be ok...?
A question i just thought of... when the lights are off, does it need to be complete darkness or is indirect sunlight ok?

why don;t you just turn on the light and the fan and check the temps in a couple of hours. i think you'll find you're too hot (+85f) and need to do something more. lots of people use aircooled hoods to get the temps down.

when you are flowering you need complete darkness

So i need it to be below 85F to be safe. I was looking at air and water cooled lights, but didnt give them much concideration. Do they littarly take away the need for ventalation? And do you need some kind of extra Co2 if not using any ventalation?

depends on your temps and setup but yes, an aircooled hood can cool the room down enough to not need any more air exchange for cooling. as you suggest, you;ll have to add co2 or an intake into the room.

you also want to thinj about odor control using a carbon filter

im thinking i may need to opt out of the carbon filter, i have nowhere to install it, dont really want to be putting holes in the door for it. Im right in thinking it something you need to mount on the wall with a hole right?
