Setting up Medical grow room for sick relative

Hey guys I am setting up a small grow room for a relative. Prices for decent bud over here (UK) is pretty expensive, especially considering a lot of it is subpar. The pain meds she was on were fucking up her organs and after some convincing her that cannabis wasn't as dangerous as heroin she has been completely off the pain meds. She uses my mighty vaporiser and for the first time in over a year is able to walk around and cook and even take small walks with her poodle after being housebound always out of her mind on the pills.

I hooked her up with a little tent and a cheap burple LED for a one plant grow and it worked, so now we are looking at converting a small 6x7 box room into a one room veg and flower room. I have just finished painting the walls with diamond white matt paint and the place looks sparkling. We will probably get some mylar later on but for now it is a budget setup so trying to keep costs down.

QB are out of our price range unfortunately and I don't want to order from China because if a light malfunctions, we need a solid warranty policy as we can not afford to be buying new lights. This is my plan as of today:

Paint the walls white matt
get two cmh 600w lights from lumatek like these ones: https://www.groworks.co.uk/product/630w_lumatek_cdm_tekken_reflector_lighting_kits
Get a variable speed extraction fan with large carbon filter capable of extraction adding 15% needed power per grow light
Get an intake fan 20% lower than the exhaust one and vent in through the wall so it takes fresh air out of the room next to it
11l humidifier
11l dehumidifier
plastic sheeting to hang over the door inside the grow room to avoid light leaks

I am also trying to decide what medium to use for growing, soil is much easier, but I will have to be there to do most of the potting etc. Hydro is less labour intensive but requires kore stuff like an ec meter, ph pens etc.

I could use advice on the design and things we might be overlooking. Also any recommendations for strains for med patients for pain relief? I had bought 8 blue dream seeds from humbolt as she has tried that strain before and really liked it and said it offered pain relief without making her feel glued to the couch. Looking for more strains like this.

God bless and thanks for any help.

edit: If we do get the CMH lights, what k bulb would be best for using for both flower and veg? They do 4200k, 3100k.

You could grow hydro using pH perfect nutrients from Advanced Nutrients and never have to check your pH. A lot of people drag AN through the mud for whatever reasons they may have but for some folks (such as myself) I don't mind paying for the convenience for something that does exactly what I want it to. A lot of people (such as myself) really like using Waterfarms by General Hydroponics. They're a hybrid of drip/RDWC and they can really produce some monsters. They have single units like this one or you can run 8 of them together as you'll see in the link I just shared. This is the exhaust fan that I use. It didn't cost much, has a variable speed controller and it's very quiet. It might not suit your needs, though. As for advice on strains for certain conditions, that's something that you'll have to research on your own as there are so many options out there. It's actually one of the more overwhelming aspects of this kind of undertaking. That's about all that I have the time to offer up for right now. Hopefully someone else will chime in as well. Best of luck to you and your family member!

Some questions if you can clarify.

You want a veg and flower room but not sure if you mean veg and flower in the same room, seed to harvest or run a section veg and have a section to flower so your cutting your times down?

Where will your extraction go?

You could consider using coco drain to waste, a cheap ph liquid kit is accurate enough.

Doubt you will need the humidifier and dehumidifier.

Hi there,

What do you advise for lighting? I cant afford hlg and I am buying all the equipment for her. I have been told alibaba suppliers make decent leds but I cant risk one breaking and having no real honoured warranty.

CMH lights seem to of become cheaper, would they be ok for veg and bloom?

Yeah CMH is great , you can buy the individual bulbs but both work for an all rounder.

That's a fair point on the warranty on the baba boards. Most people would never find out one way or the other since the chance of failure is fairly low.

Stick to what you can get on ebay from your local hydro store, CMH is cheap these days. Maybe check out migro's youtube cmh bulb comparison too.
CMH is simple and there isn't really a learning curve like there can be with LED. The one negative is the bulb prices when you do need a replacement.

For light, look at the t5 fluorescent banks. A 8-12 bulb setup would probably work well for that size. You could alternate bulbs and cover veg and flower.

I don't grow with them, but people say they work. Here is a link to the type of fixture (you can find them cheap on ebay or used gear shops).

CMH, pound for pound (pun intended) is a contender for best grow light of all time, in my extremely biased opinion.
I've veg'd and flowered under both 3100K and 4200k. The 4200K is stronger in VEG, but also flowers fabulously.

I'm a DIY LED enthusiast, and I can't say enough good things about the performance of CMH.

Would 2x630 cmh, 1x 600 hps with reflective hood and 1x 600 actual watt burple cover a 6x7 room?

Someone 2 miles away is selling the hps full kit for 80, the burple for 110 and I would buy two cmh 630 for 380 each. So just under 1k for around 2500w of full spectrum lighting.

600w hps digital dimmable kit.

You will have to get the details on the blurple so we can take a look.

Should be enough to light your space all in all though if the blurple is what is says on the tin.

Hey man, thanks for all yopur help. Are the flower footprints HLG claim true? Their 260w kits say their flower footprint is 2x4. So for my 7x6 room I would only need 3 right?

these ones? 822 for 3 of them and save lots on the electricity bill.

Yes they are true, I used to run two of the original v1 260w kits in a 4x4 and smashed it every crop.

No your maths wrong, 2x4 is 8 square feet, 6x7 is 42 square feet so you would need 5.25 but since I just posted on your other thread if you source the parts from where I said and get the xlg driver 5 kits will do and the price will be way less than hlg eu.

So what happened? What was the outcome?
