i was just wondering if anyone has ever had any experience with one and the effects it may have had. i have read alot about them but have not tried them....yet.

I once blacked out in a pool... same concept I guess, lose of consciousness with water and what not :D

never been in one meself but my g/fs mum is a dominatrix with a lot of years experience using these and apparently the main problem with most ppl is the feeling of restriction/enclosure freaks a lot of ppl out kinda claustraphobia type thing and they cant continue

Ya man !!
All types .... !
I have a modded vac bed

...and ... I am currently working on a chamber right now.
Budgeting for an oxygen generator(line in) as I want the chamber to be atmosphere controlled !
But these are loud ... so I am shopping for the right hardware at the moment.

:)

Yeah , i think one first needs to master quieting the mind and maybe have some basic meditation skills to speed things along.
Not many people can spend even ten minutes just with their thoughts and no input.

That is a prerequisite to say the least !!
Amen to that .... this man knows.

What's with the latex? Its not exactly a sensory deprivation chamber.

Let me tell you this ...
When you set up a vac bed on top of a water bed which is heated ..... and you have oxygen line adjusted .... in the right state of mind you get to fly out of your body. This can get quite constrictive .... 'womb like' .... as it should per this application.
You might in such ways induce sleep paralysis .... which is a stepping stone to lucid dreaming which you need to master if you are to be successful in ... astral projections aka OBE.

And to many of us it's all about OBE

:]

Also investigate Hypnagogic Hallucinations .... interesting stuff
Don't even get me started on application of mood enhancers and other potions and trinkets .... with these chambers .... lol

awesome puffer fish! i cant wait till i get the chance to finally experience one. ive been learning and practicing meditation for a year or so. any advice u can give me would be much appreciated bro.

Advice ....?
Read up on synæsthesia ...
You need to learn how to get there ... through meditation or other ...
Just have to let yourself go.
It works for me !

;)

Constriction is a natural womblike condition.
In many indigenous cultures crying babies are wraped up tightly to comfort them.

im totally ready. wrap me up like a spliff and let the journey begin. haha thats one my list of things to do before i die for sure. whats the craziest experience youve ever had before puffer? im so very intrigued by this.

But are the effects similar to a float tank? It seems like being constricted by latex would be a distraction

A float tank or a bed ... is just a tool (vehicle)... once you learn to get there you don't need them.
If you are claustrophobic ... such toys will serve no benefit to you.

Synesthesia
is what you need to master. By blocking certain senses ... in essence you confuse your brain in perception of things.
Such machines help in the learning process. Some people can do it genetically some by practice ...through years of meditation ..... some use potions to get there.
Simple.

So instead of laying down in water in the dark you lay on a water bed while being vacuumed sealed like a sandwich an having to breath through a tube in your mouth? Sounds like an episode of the twilight zone. It seems like it would just be easier to sit in the bathtub and shut the lights off. I don't understand what "sensory deperavation chambers" do other then give it a fancy scientific name for meditating in water. Anyone care to explain?

I did smirk on this little comical rant... but its more then that buddy!

Don't know what took me so long to reply but this thread. But I got plenty of experience in sensory deprivation tanks. Probably spent over a hundred hr's worth in floating tanks... during my 3 year period. Its very valuable... its more then being suspended in water buddy! No sound, no light, and no gravitational pull does have an extreme effect on the body. We are use to are senses telling us what to do and what to be aware of... thus certain aspects of the mind begin to shut off since we have more sensory input telling us what to expect. But after those leverages begin to be deprived... are mind now interprets those and starts reacting in different ways that stimulates more of an active conscious. Reach the Theta wave and you'll know what I'm talking about :)

Note: Wikipedia Theta Wave if you don't know what I'm referring to.
