Seedling help

Hi i just placed my freshly germinated seeds in my diy aeroponic system. My question is can my rockwool/seeds get too wet? My system is spraying a good amount of water so i didn't know if to much h2o might be harmful or should i be good? Also they are under my 600 watt hps turned down to 50% and it is about 3 ft higher than the top of my system is that ok? Thanks in advance for any and all answers

Yes, it can get too wet and cause root problems once she's growing.

Ok well i turned tree pump off this morning before i left for work. Think they will be ok for 9 hours?
I imagine so

Also it was only on for 7 hours. It shouldn't cause much damage in that time should it?
Nah, but eventually it probably will. While the seed is sprouting, it can be pretty wet. It's when the roots are developing and getting larger that being too wet can cause issues. Too wet, and the roots can drown.

Just out of curiosity why can the roots dangle in the water in dwc and not drown? Should i run my pump on a timer for my aeroponic system?

With DWC, you add disolved oxygen to the water with an air pump or waterfall. The roots absorb the DO in the water.

Could i make it a aeroponic dwc hybrid system?
You could, but it'd be redundant. I'd just hand water your cubes until the roots are poking through some. I like dwc cloners more than aero because sometimes it's hard to contain leaks with the sprayers. But they basically do the same thing.

Read through the GrowWeedEasy guide. It's got a ton of great info in there!

Yeah my aero i having an issue with water dripping out of the top where the lid goes on. I did a dwc my first grow and it was easy but i went with the aero this time bc i read it gives bigger yields

Aero and hydro produce the exact same yields. I like dwc because clogged sprayers suck! And they clog all the time! I love dwc :) Check out my 2017 RDWC thread (link below)

germinating seeds in rockwool only need to be watered maybe once a day and thats only if they are not still damp from the previous watering . if you dampen medium too much , it will prevent roots from sprouting . Turn your pumps off and hand water the cubes only once a day and they will be fine .

If you are using a storage tote for a rez with pump and ez clone sprayers with a pvc manifold, (there are a lot of variations on this.) Yes get a timer. some like the 1min on 5 min off schedule but the 15 on 15 off type timers work well too.

Adjusting the height of the sprayer manifold so that the spray doesn't hit the lid but only 1 1/2" so it hits the bottom of the net pot. Also some silicon seal can help. I'm going to put some saran wrap along the edge of the tub then put silicon on the lid were the tub edge would be and put the lid on. wait 24 hours and then pull the top and see that the lid and tub edges are sealed.

I ran three tubs some years ago like that and am assembling the same now for some good meds.

Checkout Stink Bud's "Grow a pound every three weeks" thread in Hydroponics forum. It will be exactly the kind of info you need.

This is what im working with. I would rather have built one with rails and a separate reservoir but i currently have space limitations. For some reason they seem happier with the pump on constantly than with it off. They seem to droop with it off. I'm going to put it on the timer. Would 15 min on 30 off be good?

I've run 15/15min for a 50% duty cycle in my cloner early veg and worked fine.
I have a severe space limitation too. I'm looking at three tubs, cloner/early veg, a Veg/flower tub which will be split between two growth chambers, and a rez tub to pre-treat water, all in a bath tub to contain the eventual spills and drips. 27" x 54" and 225 to 450 watts leds.

I'd just hand water your seedlings until you have a few roots below the rock wool, then turn on the pumps and adjust the nutes to 3-400 and go on from there.

Word hey thanks man. I'm in a bathtub too if you couldn't tell by the picture. What are the sizes of your tubs and how did you do your ventilation? Im trying to maximize my spaces ability. One more question, how many plants are you able to run in it?

I'm using 27 gal ruff neck tubs for rez and 10 gal tubs for rooting chambers, though I'm going to try a 6 gal tote as a rooting chamber for two plants using a different spray/drain array. I'm limited by law to six plants, but may fudge that a bit to get a few extra cones. I'm figuring on running four plants veg/flower and 2-4 seedlings/ cuttings.

Last time I did this, I ran 8 Super Lemon Haze in a tub (X2) but didn't train much and they ended up almost 4 feet tall. Not light efficient so this time, I'm going to scrog.

I hear that. I have a 10 gallon tub with 2 berry bomb autos 3 think different autos and a blue dream auto. Think thats to many in a 10 gallib tub?
