Seed prices and quality

i am sure this has been discussed somewhere, but i still dont get it. why is big bud from sensi 120 bucks and other places like 30. i dont want bb, but it was an example. and should i spend ther money to get "better" "more exspensive" seeds, or are they the same? if there is a huge difference in quality i will buy the more exspansive. i was looking at paradise sensi and sagramatha, and wow, they are big money. whats the deal?

i dunno what to tell you about the prices, but places will make their own versions of (say blueberry) sometimes out of completely new genetic lines. so I would just go w/popular opinion from ppl who've grown the strain your wanting to grow. so i would just ask on here when you choose the strain you wanna grow!

I read that seed prices vary on the popularity of the strain, and that some seed banks are just down right greedy!!but I would really like to know as well:peace:

ya seed prices can vary alot from breeder to breeder. im pretty much stuck on joey weed seeds. all are 50.00 and are some interesting specimans there!!! have grown out blu apollo, loved it1 am just startin cinderella 99 X apollo! this should be a good one!!

I think prices are affected by many variables. Prohibition, location of seed banks, genetics are just three factors I can name off the top of my head. Common sense suggests that price is related to seed bank overall quality and customer service. In other words, you get what you pay for.

but isn't mandala on the cheaper side? and I've heard good things about mandala....

There are exceptions, of course. I've heard good things about this company. I read on RIU in a previous thread that the company keeps their prices low to attract customers. It's the same strategy Amazon.com used.

Some seeds are more expensive for a variety of reasons. The major difference between something from say sensi seeds or some cheaper site is this: Sensi seeds is one of the oldest seed banks out if not the oldest. They have more experience and they pretty much revolutionized the seed industry. They have huge breeding facilities and grow out large numbers of potential genetic donors choosing only the best for breeding. For the most part their seeds are true breeding plants and will be uniform in nature like clones.

On the other hand there are other "fly by night" seed sellers who will buy these seeds say a 10 pack and breed them amongst each other and sell the resulting seeds of this breeding at a fraction of the price using the same name. The quality of the seeds would surely suffer due to inbreeding depression and things of that nature and it just shady in general to take credit for the genetics when you didnt really do anything.

Some seeds that u will buy cheaper will be extremely variable. You might get some sativa phenotypes or indica phenotypes and might not get the desired quality and/or characteristics of the Original "Big bud" for example. Still other seeds might not be of any relation to the strain you want, but have a similar name or even the same name.

So you see not all strains are created equal. Sensi seeds saw this happening and they started their own lower quality seed company the white label seeds to try and compete with these sellers but personally i would either order their top quality seeds if i were to order from them.

Just because this is so it doesn't mean that you cant pure genetics cheap or very good plants cheap. If breeding isn't on your list of things to do the cheapest method would probaly be getting f1 hybrids. These are 2 pure breeding strains crossed together. They will produce some of the best seeds you can grow and be very stable...something like blueberry x skunk#1 or something. That being said paying like 200$ for 10 seeds isnt unreasonable when you think of the possibilities....unlimited amounts of f1 hybrids through breeding, clones or even 1 plant would cover the cost of the seeds once done.

lol i had to go use babelfish to find out what the hell he said....all i know is ive bought 2 strains offline 1 is white label white skunk....cheap as hell just wanteed to see if i would actually get them and then after i did i got some blueberry from dutch passion....buds not done so idk if the more expensive bb is better or not but what i can say is the cheapo seeds def. all grew more uniformly very stable strain whereas my expensive bb has many morphs suck as extra leaves and 1 has a extra fat main cola and then toward the top it gets flat and i mean completely flat...its weird anyway point is so far unless the bb bud turns out way better the cheaper strain was the best buy
