Seed Making made easy - Selfing a plant

This thread was created for those wanting to breed their own seeds .....

This is one method to get seeds from a strong female plant .... Although one could just take clones , this method will work on regulars and autoflowers , when cloning cannot be done. By SELFING a female plant , you will be able to capture the same characteristics of your host plant . No males are involved.

What you need :

Regular seedling / Autoflower fem or clone ( rooted )
Solo cup or small pot
Bagged medium
CS or STS for pollen making





First, pop your seed of choice or pick seedling / clone of choice. Make sure it is a healthy plant to start. You can either leave plant in solo ( and put under 12/12 ) or up pot .... allow for some bigger growth THEN put under 12/12.

I chose to grow a slightly larger plant than previous solo breeding this time .
Here the strain used is a Hazeman seeds- KKP KING KONG POISON ( Indy dom ) GG4 X DURBAN POISON cut. Simple bagged medium and water only grow . There is no need for
unnecessary feeding as we are only looking to make seeds and wanting simple requirements.

In a solo config , think of the solo cup challenges type of grow ... under 12/12 from start.
When plant begins to show sex , it will be time to spray .


I up potted slightly to grow it out a bit more ..... this plant will have mid and lower node areas sprayed and upper colas for pollinating / seed bearing. This plant will NOT be consumed .



This strain is quite hardy and was chosen to keep for more beans. !
Here is an example about 3 weeks old .



Some growers prefer STS over CS but if CS is at least 40 ppm , then it will work fine .
You can also DIY CS but I purchased Silver Mountain colloidal silver and it is 50ppm.

I am running the up potted plant under 12/12 today and will update the steps forward once she grows out and sexes under 12/12 schedule.

Available at amazon .... i originally used Tiresas mist BUT got better results from silver mountain ( less spraying / faster pod growth ) . So after using up the Tiresas , I kept the small spray bottle and refilled it with silver mountain. Any travel size pump spray bottle will work too. Just store your CS in a dark , cool place as light degrades the CS .

These will be the targeted areas for spraying once this plant “ matures / sexes “ . I plan to only target the node areas AVOIDING upper canopy top. The canopy will be allowed to flower then get pollinated by the pods / sacks below. So this entire plant will be selfed for S1 .

Alternatively, you can SPRAY ENTIRE PLANT for pollen harvesting only also.
Plant CANNOT be consumed when fully sprayed. The difference to the above method is the cultivation of PODS for pollen chucking when wanting to cross another FEM for hybrids.

By way of a SOLO CUP GROW .... I got a decent return.

I found SELFING plants and the S1 produced seemed a bit more stable in growth than pollinating ANOTHER ( same strain plant ).
Also it is much easier to make pollen and seed itself in a Rodelization type of way Mother Nature does.

Pollen can be stored like seeds ( dried first ) in fridge and will last quite awhile .

I'm watching, lol Seeds are expensive. I have 12 different strains but would just like to cross them and cut down on my seed buying hobby, ha!

So would you flip at week 3 if you did the whole grow in a solo cup, or do u normally up-pot to a 1 gal then flip.

if I start in a solo , I tend to shoot for 12/12 from germ ..... plant will be smaller but it’s only for either seeding or harvesting nuts .... then you toss whole cup in trash after it’s use. I only up pot when I want a healthier amount of seeds and by vegging a little up front , more branching will be available.

Also you can do a SPLIT USE METHOD :

Example .... Potted plant has good branching ( lowers / mids ) .... you can spray multiple branches to no only self the host , but harvest the OTHER stems and dry for crossing. So you have a seed run going AND p available for a female that you may have growing in early flower to “ pollinate “ . S1 seeds and crossed seeds going at same time ( in another female ) !
By doing proper labeling and careful branch pollinating you can have bud to consume with a few lowers bursting with cross seeds.

But be aware that seeds need a good 6 - 8 weeks to mature. So one could harvest all of the good bud and leave the branches to “ finish “.

I try to seed auto to auto or reg to reg when crossing. As I’m trying to cut down on pheno hunting thru variables that would come from crossing regs and autos together. Autos are fun that you can introduce say a good strong lowryder strain into say a BD blue dream auto and get some interesting fast growing large single cola type plants ...... great if looking into SOG [ sea of green ] grows.

Another option for those looking for interesting experimenting in autos.

Sensi seeds have straight Ruderalis seeds to grow ...... Short and fast but low THC.
However , say you spray that whole plant down for pollen THEN use that RUDY pollen on a strong reg you have .
You end up with a 50/50 shot for autos in that mix. There will be other performance qualities to “ weed “ thru but who knows you may get that one interesting cut that you can self and continue !

My next experiment ( once I clear current grows ) ..... will be an AUTO mix.

I’m thinking a Blue Dream ( blueberry / super silver haze type ) backed to DJ short Blueberry .
Something like a DOUBLE blueberry / haze or Blue Berry Dream .

Although a sherbert strain would make another tasty mix .

I will admit i have never even bothered re-vegging any plant . I just grow , harvest , smoke and do perpetual grows so revegging takes time that i feel is better used on sewing new plants.

Maybe one day .... lol.

I have a strain, Zensation that I used my last seed and is in flower now. Seeing your post sparked a thought that I am going to lose this strain if I don't do something on this grow.

I'm gonna do this to ALL OF MY MEPHISTO STRAINS!!! They might not come back to the U.S.!!! These CQx24C are STRAINS they probably won't make anymore, so I would cs them... Definitely some ROG!!!

Yes ..... it makes ZERO SENSE not to take any of your favorite cuts , seed stock , flowering plants and not try to grab all the KEEPERS !! .......

You’re the boss ! .... Show those bitches wats up !

I mean look at this idea ...........
Start a SOG GROW with say 9 plants ( or whatever ) ..... one gallon bags .
Flip them to flower after desired veg.
You grab one to “ guinea pig “ ...... you mark it and fully spray down then continue grow .... spraying CS/STS at least once a day.
In about 10-20 days nuts will form ...... as others sexes and begins Preflower.
You grab another “guinea pig “ mark it ........ MaMa ( she’s the seed maker ) .
In another area .... INTRODUCE THEM to each other . I used to get a large plastic bag = set each plant next to each other.
Cover both with bag and gently shake them .

Check the result .... When satisfied , shitcan the Pollen plant or try to capture some pollen ( clip stems ) and dry out , then store for FUTURE EXPERIMENTING

Harvest your remaining plants for consumption ( when done... lol ) let SEED MAMA plant finish the seeds . Mature seeds take about 6 - 8 weeks to ripen.

Collecting seeds is relatively easy . Pods will split and seed falls out. You can see them as pods crack open. I take styrofoam plate ( has lip ) cut a slit and hole for stalk.
Carefully place around base of plant . By shaking buds slightly will make ripe seeds drop .
I usually had the gallon grow bag standing in a large bowl as I did this to collect any “ bouncing seeds “ .

The mama seed maker BUD is fine to consume as you did NOT spray on this plant only pollinated it ..........
