Scrogging with green xmas net lights?

Ok, let me explain the title. I've been thinking about whether I want to use a SOG method with some twine or some type of net. I also had the problem in my head about how to light the flower room for "night" access if needed. As everyone knows, the green light will not interrupt "sleeping" plants. I have a green CFL, but I think it is too bright. I was thinking about nets and green lights, and then it hit me. I can use those green net string lights hung over my grow and allow the plants to grow through it for support and training.

If I need to access the flowering room during lights off, I can turn on the xmas string net of green lights.

Does anyone see a problem with this idea?
 
Only possible threat with this idea is an electrical fire...I've read a few stories about christmas tree fires caused by flawed christmas lights...

These are LED with no heat... but yeah, anything electrical, even lights and hoods are electrical hazards. The net will be suspended with springs hooked to eye hooks in the wall, not stapled or otherwise risked. My area I need netting in is 2' x 4.5'


I think this will work nicely without risking fires anymore than I am now. This would also help me keep my grow 100% LED in the flower room. :)

Well, sounds like you got it down, go for it!
 
I wanted to use LEDs but they are pricey and all come out of Hong Kong if you want LED nets, like I'm looking for. Since the green bulbs would only be on if I were attending to the plants at "night", I may just go with a regular $5 set that you hang on bushes.... Those outdoor net sets are strong anyhow. The LED sets look kinda wimpy in the wiring department.
 
I think it is an absolutely brilliant idea. It's thinking out of the box like this that shows true creative problem solving.

Ahhhh, you're just saying that 'cause it's true. Now I'm blushing. Seriously, it was a great idea and needed to be bumped.
 
the only thing is make sure they truly are only green spectrum. maybe it's just me but im always paranoid about the claims of the manufacturers. they look green but you never know, make sure theres not some other light spectrum that you dont know about. otherwise i must say, thats a pretty cool idea for viewing during the plants bedtime. best of luck!

btw yeah the fire hazard could be an issue. maybe put a smoke alarm in just in case. would suck to have your grow go up in flames along with your place of residence. can't be too careful. if it by small chance happen, the smoke alarm may help you get to it in time before the damage is done. and also, i like your setup, looks cool! i myself would like to eventually get into LED lighting. my mh and hps produce a shitload of heat. and if i end up getting a co2 generator, the heat will make things worse. although im worried about the LEDs not having enough light penetration and i know the good ones are expensive.
 
You raise a great point Skiweeds. I had a green CFL in my grow room because I couldn't find the incandescent green party bulbs. The light looked to white to me, even though it was green. I finally replaced it with a party bulb I found at a run down Kmart. these LED greens should be OK if the color in the pic is right.

Thanks for bringing up a valid point. The green lights would only be on if I flipped a switch and needed to see during the plants' lights out. I don't intend for the xmas lights to be on the full 12 hours each night.
 
i wonder if spectrum glasses could work to your benefit? if im not mistaking, it breaks up the light spectrum into the different colors, such as white light into a rainbow. so in theory, the supposed green light they give off, should only be green with no other colors right? im not 100% sure on all this but thought i would bring it up. hope all works well for you!
 
This thread needs to be bumped after christmas when the LED nets go on clearance*. Green LED Christmas Light Nets for ScrOG is brilliant. And I'm positive that if someone looked hard enough, kmart or walmart will have some of those newer LED christmas lights on sale*. The green led is specifically that color wavelength, so i'd feel specifically secure with using that light at night.

During the light ours, I find that I have to shine a Daylight CFL on my plants just to be sure they are green and not suffering from any deficiencies. (My LED growlights don't have green in the spectrum, so no green light reflects into my eyes in my grow room. Really tricky stuff.)
 
interesting idea, but I dunno, seems that a normal net and a green headlamp is easier in the long run, but the lighted mesh would sure as hell look cooler :)

:) The lights really only need to be used for plants lights off, so you can work in your garden if need be. Mine are pluged into a toggle switch.
