SCROG Questions. Make your own netting or buy a certain kind?

So I'm going to setup a scrog net, im thinking. my plants were vegging in a 5x5 and it got crowded. now they are in the bud room and a lot of branches are just really waek and almost falling over. I have never done a scrog, i normally use a lot of zip ties! lol but thats when i had like 3 plants. not 7. and these branches look weeker than any i have done.

So, make my own "netting" with like plastic clothesline? or something else? or is there already a "type" of netting that I can just buy at like menards or home depot or something?

Really appreciate it!!

Check your tackle shop for a Cast net, I wish I thought of that before I made my own mesh.
Or
HomeDepot sells hemp twine you can make your own with it.

Damn that looks pretty cool right there. Is that .5" PVC? or .75"? wondering if it would be best to do it like that and makes "Legs" that go to the ground or to just make a perimeter and go accross the whole 7x9' room with one big one.

Any reason that would not workout that well?

Yeah. How the fuck would you get to the centre to train the plants under the screen.

You do realise that you need to tuck any leader node that comes through the screen back under to the next square?

Not just let it grow through the screen.

I'm with jondamon, I could see issues with a large one depending on your reach and length. Just be sure its easy to get in there and push the shoots down. I did mine this cause I like the idea of a single scrog per plant, that way if it really grows into the net and something needs to be moved they are still independent from each other. I like my method again, without fasteners if you only drill 2 sides then the crossing pattern if just tied off can slide, that way I can make the scrog denser in areas that need it through out the grow just by sliding the string. I believe they are .75" pipe on the tops and 1" for legs. I am not 100%. Honestly I just went and wandered HD for a hour and kinda played with the parts they had. I am not sure how much of an issue it could be but when looking for string I tried to find something that was smooth and as non abrasive as possible, don't really want your net abusing the plants as they push into the screen. I will say so far I have see a huge boost in my branch strength on the plant hitting the scrog compared to the runt in front there that's not quite there. If you want a nice smooth net, look at walmart for replacement nets for the cheap soccer goals they sell, only about $14 and pre woven.

Ok, i see. Ya I'll probly do it like your talking then. i have 3 rows of 3 buckets. only 7 filled. what would you think on making three scrogs, one for each line? they are 5 gallon buckets. Doing ebb and flow system.

And @ jondamon and cyanarnofsky so luckily i did just read that because i pretty much DID think it grew thru it and it was used to mainly support the buds. SO, what im actually doing is, when the shoot starts coming up thru the net, i take it and bend it to the NEXT net hole, so it then bends upwards right? lol really sorry if this is a dumb ass question lol AND THANK YOU!!!

...have you considered a V-SCROG? ...here's a shot of a 4 ft x 25ft (i think) roll of Reflectix on the left and a 4ft x 50ft roll of plastic fencing on the right, i believe the holes in the fencing are 2 inch's square.

...and here's a shot of my V-SCROG before the plants go in, note the fencing stapled atop the reflectix.

...and here's a shot with plants, ...note that the light is a single 600HPS and the plants are anchored to the walls with pipe cleaners attached to the fencing, ...the pipe cleaners are very gentle on the stems and can be bought in box's of 1000 for about $15.00, ...crafters use them so that's how you shop for them, as a craft supply.

Althought that is pretty sweet, i think the way my stuff is setup wouldnt work that way. I have "middle" plants that woldnt be albe to do that

damn, so basically i needed to be doing this already..? I just started flowering my ladies on saturday. AND MINE have 10-12 nodes on them... I'll be trimming some lower stuff for sure. but i wonder if i just have to roll with em how they are... ? They did get topped.. I just have a bunch or pretty weak branches cuz the fan couldnt hit all of them at the end ...

I do like this scrog shit tho and I think I'll deff be doing it.

One more question tho. If you were growing in a 7*9' room how many plants would be most effecient in a scrog in that space? right now there are 7 and i have the system setup for 9 so a 3*3 bucket square 5 gallon buckets.

an issue of mine too is, I take clones from my vegging plants a week or so before putting them into flower. so i use the tops and clip a few others. Then, clones are started and the vegging plants go to flower after healing and lettign bottom branches catch up. Then they go to flower for about 8 weeks. the clones will then be going into veg, which means they have NOWHERE to go until the bud room is done, and that means like 7-9 weeks of veg. So WHEN would i want to start my SCROG net?

Really from what I have read, you keep your scrog at a height you would like to keep your plants. So for mine I keep it about foot n half due to my ceiling space between light and plant. This way when I flower they max out the height I have left, but the great thing is with the scrog you get those longer veg times without gaining height. So the when to use in horizontal is really up to where you what your plant height at. Also helps keep all your plants uniform so that with several like your doing you wont have different lamp heights throughout, it maintains them at your desired height untill flowering. Scrog at flower is pointless really as you need to be doing it through veg. The ideaq is to pull height down while giving other shoots time to catch up giving you a nice even canopy. When you go to flower you actually stop poking the tops down as you want them to come through the scrog to get maximum light.

During veg it helps maintain height, during flowering it pulls down the large "sugar leaves, or fan leaves" so that your colas have maximum light to the best bud areas. ....hope that ramble makes sense.
:p

Ya, it does man, thank you. Ok so thats kind of what i was coming to the conclusion of. Is that you want to be doing it already in veg. SOOO, is ur veg room also your bud room? I have two separate rooms and a closet for a aero cloner i made. That right now has clones I'll be transplanting in to the 5x5 veg tent tonight. The plants that WERE vegging are now in the 7x9' bud room. So I move my ladies from room to room. That would complicate things a bit if i was using the scrog screen pretty early into veg, right? Or is there a good way to move em and not mess em up?

Couple specs:
Both systems are an ebb and flow bucket system. 9 5 gallon buckets in veg and flower.(separate systems, separate res')
5x5 veg tent has a 400w MH hortilux.
4" inline exhaust; screens at bottom of tent open for intake; oscillating fan blowing on canopy; stationary fan blowing air under the canopy (DO YOU USE FANS IN YOUR SCROG ROOM???)

7x9' Bud room has one 1000w Super HPS in a 6" Raptor Reflector
6" inline exhaust that pulls thru the carbon filter and light and goes out of house. 4" inline for an intake, which blows directly into one of the oscillating fans that blows into the tops of the canopy. Couple smaller fans blowing air around under the canopy.
Mylar on the walls.

Temps in both rooms stay at 74-75 and RU is at 50-60%
Both rooms get fed 3 times a day 15 mins at a time
Using Gen Hydro Flora Series; Lucas Formula (8micro/16bloom) I also will add some botanicare sweet(only in flowering plants), and cal mag(veg and flower) because i use RO water
Res temps stay at 68-69F due to having a couple airstones and a water pump that is on 24/7 and recirculates the solution
