SCROG question

I have a plant vegging outside that has already been topped at the third node and I have the branches tied down to prepare the plant to scrog once I put it in my tent.

My question is: in most videos that I see people have the scrog screen 8-12” above the plant. Is there any reason why I can’t put my screen closer, say maybe 2-3” above so I can fill out the screen better? Is there a reason why others are putting their screen so much higher? To me, it looks like you could utilize more screen space putting it closer, especially for the lower branches.

This will be my second grow, but my first scrog.

The 8-12" distance is so you can easily get in there and manipulate the branches AND so air can circulate in there. I've scrogged at 6", but it was tight.

Yeah it might be a pain to water also
And its possible that ventilation could be a problem.

Hard to say without looking at it

Ah, yes. I didn’t even considering watering.

My plant is 10” tall so it would be a pain to try to water with the screen right there.

I made my screen today and it will be 9.5” above the plant so I think that will work out much better than what I previously had in mind.

Okay, thanks friedguy and charface.

There's a few tricks to watering if in the event you're in a really tight space like that. Slap some deeper watering treys under your pots. Just water from the bottom. If it's dry it'll suck that water/food right up no problem in a few minutes.
