Theres a good thread by "Muddy" on the Autoflower Network (AFN). He explains some misconceptions about autos on that thread.
Ive had an auto that vegged for one month and I switched to bloom nutes to get it to flower because it was getting to big (this might go against the theory that autos have a set flower date but I noticed flowers forming once I switched to bloom nutes-anecdotal). Some dont flower with this method like northern lights autos, in particular, have a long time to get to start to flower (and again it all depends on genetics/breeders work).
About the scrog. If you get the auto to veg for over a month, or get it big enough for a scrog, then we know that some strains double, triple, some even quadruple in size. Thus filling out the scrog net. Its possible. I have some autos scrogged outdoors right now. I went to the scrog thread on here and the tutorial said to stop tucking by week 2. Well, the colas did not go through as far as I wanted them two ( they had to be 8-12 inches through the net). Next time I will stop tucking at week 1 and 3 days into flower.
The difference I have seen in scrog vs lst is that a scrog makes everything more uniform. You can do that too with lst but once stretching starts some branches on the lst plant grow higher than the rest and I then readjust the wire to bring that branch down. Which might snap a branch (ive done it before lol). With scrog all you have to do is pull the top growth a little down and move it to the next farthest opening.
When scrogging you are growing the plant horizontally and with lst, well you just bend and tie. There are some that do a combination of both.
Watering is a pain in the ass for both but with something like a drip system or with hand watering flora flex caps, or hydro halos, or something similar it makes watering WAY easier.
Trying something new is always fun!
