Scientific Grow (advice welcome)

Hey I am so excited to be doing my first grow this year. The title is Scientific Grow for a reason. I think about things with very scientific approach and usually things work out well. I believe there is a perfect science to growing marijuana and I am on a quest to find that perfect approach although it may take me a few years to master it. Ok for starters I am starting plants inside under 2 CFL’s 13 watt and a small 14 watt fluorescent tube. I am starting with some local dank bud bag seed. Breed unknown but is known to be outdoor bud and plants have been adapted to local climate. I will later transplant outdoors after seedling stage is complete. I started about 20 seeds using paper towel method. I kept seeds in a dark place for 2 days, which was probably was the perfect time I think. After 2 days when I checked my seedlings roots were about 3 cm – 7 cm long. A few had their starting leavings from germination stage. The following are some pictures of my light setup and plants. I snapped these today and plants are on day 14.

The next stage was soil mix. I did not feel like transplanting from rock wool or soilless mix into larger soil container and then finally outside so I started the seedlings directly into soil in compressed sphagnum jiffy-pots and used my own soil mix. I used a dark, already dried out potting soil and peat moss. 2/3 to 1/3 mixed ratio. I was sure to refrain from using an acidic potting soil because seedlings are quite sensitive at first. For watering, since I am using a soil mix I water with a few tablespoons a day just enough to keep the soil moist. I continue this watering method until the 2 main leaves have grown to 2 cm in length. Now that plants are more mature I just pour water into the catch tray and allow the plants to soak it up from the bottom. Hopefully this will encourage deeper root growth.

My setup is small and my only intention for this temporary setup is to get plants ready to be moved outside. I have a household oscillating fan that I periodically turn on to cool temperature and supply fresh air. Right now I have a catch tray under the plants. So far 1 has died, and I moved two outside.
