Saskatchewan Seed Company? Lucky 13 Romulan?

Made my first buy from HD on the weekend after years of mostly PSBC gear. I picked up a pack of Lucky 13's Romulan, and on a whim grabbed a pack of SSC's Green Beach, a high CBD strain, at $20/10.

If anyone has tried the L13 Romulan, I'd love to hear about your results.

There's a few threads on here about Lucky 13, but I couldn't find any mention of the Saskatchewan Seed Co. Has anyone tried them? They only offer 3 strains and the prices are very low. I see enough people on here use HD as a vendor, so I'd be surprised if someone hasn't dropped a few bucks to see what they're about.

Thank you for reading and double thanks for any information you can provide. :)

Thanks, Bigbeast. How consistent is the purple kush? Does it look like it's been worked? I'm starting to mess around with pollen chucking and am looking to mainly add IBL's to the collection, so a highly variable hybrid doesn't fit the bill at this time, even if it's got some good phenos.

Figured I'd try to update this once in a while since there doesn't seem to be a great deal of info around on either company.

One of two Green Beach popped and is a healthy 6 day old seedling. The other didn't pop, but it was big and ripe looking. My theory is the hull was too thick. Generally if a seed doesn't germinate, I'll crush it with my fingers before tossing it. This one was still rock hard after 4 days on wet paper towel, couldn't crush it. Future ones will get the sandpaper treatment.

Two of the Lucky 13 Romulan seeds are in the process of germination and one of the L13 extras, White Wolf, is growing well and looking good on day 18 since it emerged from the medium.

The White Wolf and the GB will get flipped as soon as they're big enough to grab a couple clones. I just want to get an idea of what to expect before committing any more time and space.

Forgot to mention HD tossed in a pack of Swazi Gold from Malberry. Anyone grow this strain? From what I read, Malberry seems to be quite well respected for their African sativas. Unless something changes my mind, there's Neville's Haze and PSBC's SS x Haze ahead of it in the queue.

Hemp Depot is a very together old-school seed supplier.
Although, their "freebies" are often the older seeds that haven't been selling. I am skeptical of the Malberry stuff, you might not want to load your grow up with them until / if you find a keeper.

Please let us know how you like the Lucky 13 gear. Been eyeing the Green Crack / Herijuana cross myself. Most of the Beanho crosses from Hemp Depot I've tried have been good.

Hi! Just wrapped our summer grow of a solo Sask. Seed Co. Strawberry in a small greenhouse in Eastern Ontario. Lolipopped her so she got quite bushy, yet still tall at approx 7ft as pictured during early flower. Smells incredible. Total yield is TBD as she's drying yet. Grew a few more Strawberry under LED's indoors that turned out beautifully as well. Approx 3ft. tall and nice yield. Based on that success have ordered some Green Beach and PK to try as well. Looking forward to more of your Green Beach updates! Peace!

Thanks for sharing, @Micha2k , that's a beautiful beast:weed:. I hope you'll share a smoke report when you have a chance.

I've been back at HD looking at the other SSC strains, but the queue is getting too long already. Green Beach was just because I didn't have a high CBD strain. (The first GB is doing well btw, day 9 and on the third set of true leaves)

I feel dumb when I realize I'm spending even a small amount of money on seeds that realistically won't be popped for years. Between what I've already bought and the hundreds of my own I've harvested, not to mention the chucks I have planned, I've no business buying more.

But I probably will anyway.:eyesmoke:

Lucky 13 has extensive grow info for Romulan on their blog.
I planted four a while ago for my first grow (I'm a total noob) but they were all male and so I composted them.

I recently had a chance to try some of this exact Lucky 13 Romulan strain that was grown and harvested by someone else. It's a fairly potent indica-dominant effect and seems to help my wife sleep deeper into the night than most indicas.

Thank you, @GiovanniJones, for the smoke report and the blog info.

I bought from HD, so I hadn't been to L13's site. Not only is there some very useful information on growing the Romulan strain, but there are also a few strains listed that aren't on HD. Their IBL White Widow has been added to my to-purchase list.

Quick plant update:
The L13 freebie White Wolf is coming along well. I don't think it's possible for a plant to look more indica than this one. Short, squat, with wiiiide leaves.

Both Romulan are healthy little 3 day old sprouts, can't tell anything else about them yet.

The Green Beach is just about ready to be topped. Growing well, nothing noteworthy yet.

Shit. So much for self control. Just grabbed some of the Purple Kush and some of the Strawberry from SSC. At $25/pack, with the first SSC strain off to a decent start and @Micha2k 's photo above, it's pretty difficult to go wrong. At least that's my hope.

I grew the free swazi seeds indoor and this summer for fun. I thought it could take a bit of heat 30 degrees being a african strain, nope. Not a candidate for canadian outdoor. I am at 42 lat near windsor.
Good luck with the romulan saboo. I will be watching as i am eyeing it up.

Thank you for the feedback on the swazi. I'm way north of you so outdoor, other than autos, are not really an option for me.
I was looking through my collection last night and trying to make a long term plan and I'm thinking those will be passed along to someone else.

The romulan are doing well. I don't know the strain so I flipped the first two at around 18v to get a feel for what to expect. It's only been a few days, but it's looking like I got a breeding pair :) . They are very short and squat with huge fan leaves.

The green beach is waiting for a space in the main flowering tent. It's healthy and happy, quite pale compared to its neighbors. It was incredibly short, but I put it under 12/12 for a few days. I pulled it out of 12/12 too early for sex to show, but it did make it stretch a bit. It had 7 nodes in less than an inch of vertical height.

Apparently the romulan was a huge hit in victoria/ port alberni where it began its success. It was called Port Alberni Pinebud. Veterans brought it back in the 70s from Korea. Google romulan-genetics. The originator has a instagram page.

His father was joe and the son (jack) couldn't let the mother plant die once his father passed. Seeds not cheap though.. The males from this strain are good keepers for breeding hybrids. Its a good read.

^^ I'm chucking everything at everything right now so that's good to hear. :) ^^

Actually, I'm mainly ensuring a long term supply of IBLs and making some planned crosses, mostly using PSBC Blueberry. Rom x BB is definitely on the list if this Romulan lives up to its reputation.

Hi Saboo! The strawberry smokes very nicely. Smooth draw with lots of terps. Can't wait to make some bubblehash with all the trimmings.

Based on your Green Beach comments I bought a couple of packs. Can't go wrong at $20CDN each!! Anyhow popped a few back in mid-october. coming along nicely so far. If they go well will clone a few in Jan/Feb timeframe and put them outdoors next April. Growing outdoors legally is pretty awesome.

Peace!

Thanks @SUNDOG . That is true sativa, for certain. I hope the effect is what you are looking for.

@Micha2k , sounds tasty. How's the potency? Looking forward to seeing your Green Beach trees next season.

This thread is turning to a nice collection of info on some fairly anonymous strains and breeders. Thanks again to all. (I'll try to get my shit together and get some photos up of my SSC and L13 plants sometime soon).

How are those Romulans progressing?
They ended up both being male. I culled one, and harvested the pollen of the skunky smelling, more robust of the two last week. It looks like a good addition to the stable, the plants were quite similar: strong and stout. May want to mess with the spectrum or light distance to get a little more space between nodes.
Not sure when I'll pop more beans, but I'll drop some of that pollen on something soon, likely a c99 or a Blueberry.

The White Wolf has just finished the stretch. I defoliated and spread it open a bit. It's a healthy, good-looking plant. Not much of a smell at this time, but it looks to be a heavy producer.

The Green Beach was finally put into flower. This poor girl has taken a beating. I got distracted by other strains and this one has been ignored and heavily pruned and ignored again. She's looking a bit rough, but will hopefully look better after the stretch. It looks like a resilient strain.
