Sanchez's Flowering/Harvesting Journal

Hey all! I wanted to document the final stages of my first grow. First let me give you a little background. I began germination quite awhile ago, but there was a major setback. The plants began showing sexual maturity just as I was set to go on a week long vacation. I removed the one male before I left, leaving me with three females. Well the one week vacation turned into two weeks and by the time I got home the plants were trashed.. or so I thought. All the leaves were crumbling, and the tops of the main stalks were all caved in and brown. I decided to give them a bit of water just as a last resort. Well within a few days I saw signs on new growth all over the plants. I removed all the dead material and put them back into 24/hr light. They took off and some five weeks later they were again ready for 12/12. These photos are of them approx. six weeks into flowering. You will ntice that due to all the stress and the less than ideal growing conditions the buds are not quite what they could be. If you read this far you definetely deserve a cookie or a sticker. :D

My grow has been a 99% Wal-Mart grow meaning that I have purchased almost every single item needed from my local Wally World.
I am using five, two-bulb 4' shoplights. Three suspended above the plants, and two mounted to the wall to provide side lighting for the lower colas. I have a thermometer/hygrometer combo to keep track of temp. and humidity. I purchased 2.85 gallon white trash cans that I cut drainage holes into. For ventilation I bought 4" dryer hose kit and ducted it to a fan that I mounted in the top of the closet. I have a small heater I use in the colder months to maintain close to ideal room temp. I painted the walls flat white (again with Wal-Mart paint :D) I have been using Shultz 10-15-10 plant food. I, like many others here, began using a Miracle Grow soil. I selected the "Miracle Grow Moisture Control" type. The seeds are just bag seeds from some really great herb that came through town awhile back. I am so proud of these girls, and I know they could be so much better had they recieved proper lighting, nutes, soil, etc. But with all things considered they are doing pretty well. I will keep updates up through harvest and curing for your viewing pleasure. Thanks RIU and all you guys out there who contribute so much. I cant always say that I have chosen the best methods, but thanks to you guys at least I KNOW my folly. In a world where this has to be a huge secret I am so glad I can relate to, and share with all you guys.

The plants have more visible trichomes every day. I went to Wal-Mart today to try to find a Magnifying glass or a microscope.. All I could find was a 2x-4x Magnifying glass for approx. $5. I even checked Radio Shack to no avail. The 4x part of the Mag. Glass is not quite strong enough let me view the trich's as I would like. I'll keep looking for something more suitable. I also noticed that just a few hairs have begun turing amber/brownish. I keep waiting to hit this "6-week growth spurt" that I have heard about... Time will tell. More pics soon!
