Samsung INFLUX strips (LM301A) - any good?

I just found these on Arrow's website and they seem to be really cheap: https://www.arrow.com/en/products/sl-b8r7n90l1ww/samsung-electronics

I know they're older technology, but for the price of one 2' F Series double strip, I could buy three of these.

Efficiencies aside, would there be any reason not to use these for a cheap veg frame build? I'm thinking 5 strips matched to a HLG-240H-48A. Thanks.

They are cheap and powerful! Less effiency means more heat will be produced and that could in your case(high ambient temps) speak against these strips but when used only for vegging with less intensity per sft. ..., why not?

However, you can get Bridgelux gen.2 strips in 5000°k in a couple of days. 3500°k is already available, 5000°k should be available from 01/02/18. Digikey...

These I spotted last night, they're 10$ for the s09s that's about 1klm per dollar and half the price of the blue I wanna try some soon

What's so good about the Bridgelux Gen 2 compared to, say, the Samsung F Series?

Nothing! EB gen.2 is between Samsungs H- and F-series but costs only 7$/2ft. strip.
H-series is 22,5v/480mA, so 10,8w for 12,50$ and EB-series is 19,5v/700mA, which is 13,65w for 7$.
The Samsungs are still a bit better in terms of effiency(eg. 179lm/w vs. 175lm/w in 3000°k) but EB's are cheaper.

Another comparision with F-series strips at nom. current.
Unfortunately I have only the 3000°k #‘s ...(*)

EB Series Gen2 3000K@700mA(87,5mA per diode)
QER=4.84 µmol/J
LER=331.66 lm/W
= 2.55 µmol/J
13,65w * 2,55μMol/J / 7,40$ = 4,70μMol/$

F-Series Gen3 3000K@1120mA(124mA per diode)
QER=4.86 µmol/J
LER=321.60 lm/W
= 2.54 µmol/J
25.8W * 2.54 µmol/J / 14.48$ = 4.53 µmol/$

Not a big price difference here. The only advantage is you have more strips which allows a better spread.

just picked up 10 5000k for 93 and 3 240-1400 drivers gonna do a lil low profile build for a double decker vegger cab
2 4ups -2 spares
at 1$ PER 1000 LUMENS i decided to just try it out before buying some QBs
this gives me stuff to play with and i can get some other shit to toss on these drivers for experiments

i gotta try and make some efficiency improvements - id do a buld here if folks was interested........

i cant read anymore on the subject

Well I'm not going to correct you, and I would be very interested to see your build and grow. Whatever works, works in my books. Lighting is only one element of growing - you still have to be able to grow properly!

Now, if I'm reading correctly, those LM301A diodes are 1.5w chips that can run as high as 500ma @ 3.1v: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/business-images/led/file/product/products/201606/Data_Sheet_LM301A_CRI80_Rev.4.0.pdf

But the strips are max rated at 230ma per diode (1.38a/6p for the L09 strips) - which is only 46%: https://media.digikey.com/pdf/Data Sheets/Samsung PDFs/inFlux_Linear_Rev.0.9_2-5-16.pdf

Would that be due to heat considerations? Any other reason why the strips would be max rated so low compared to the individual diodes?

Yepp, because Samung is binning the strips without additional heatsinks. Thats normal!

Every LED has a max. and a recommended current. LM561c can do 200mA but run with 80mA on H-series and with 124mA on F-series strips. With proper cooling there is no reason to stay at 230mA. Only have a look at the temperatur.

Edit:
Just seen, the LEDs can handle up to 125°C. It should not be a problem to increase the current.
