I can't give you direct comparisons, but on the 44" double-row F strips I use as outriggers on my Vero arrays, I have them mounted on a simple 1/8"x 2" wide aluminum strips. When run at test current, it will run @ 50 degC and barely gets warm when run @ 75 watts.
A pair of 320- watt constant voltage drivers would run those strips pretty softly, so I would suspect the system efficiency should be comparable to the current diodes offered.
A 4x4 is about 1.5 m2, so I'm pretty sure you will have photons to spare.
Should be a nice build

Quick calculations that would work out pretty well, on paper that's about 30W/strip, 100PPF/ft2, @ 700mA, nearly 2.6 umol/J system efficacy.

20 of those strips and 2 of those drivers is about $540 at Digikey not including any taxes, then you have the heatsinks and 4040 extrusion, thermal tape/grease, wiring, connectors, plugs, labor etc... you might end up approaching the cost of a good pre-made fixture that comes with a warranty.

If you just want to do it anyway you learn a lot, can customize things exactly how you want, and it's very satisfying when (if!) nothing blows up.

Sweet build! I have only put a few simple boards together and I loved doing it. Great job! I might have to tackle a build like this in the future

This 100%. Unless you have an itch to build a lamp it's been a little over a year now since the parts alone cost the same as a decent pre made or kit.

I'm not sure what footprint you are looking at, but you could do 2 sets of 3 x 4ft bars on a 320h-48x
that is enough for even a 5x5ft or add a 3rd unit for 4x8ft

I thought this was the cheapest option as when looking at pre built lights they seem to be between 800/1200 per light and I would require 2.

LEDGardener has build plans for various sizes and strips, for a 4x4 his plans only call for 8 of the strips you want to use for about 80PPF per ft/2 at 500W.
10 strips at 600W(ish) will give you around 1400-1500PPF ( around 90PPF per ft/2) but they will run hotter than double the strips at less power.

THIS THREAD is great for finding deals on LEDS, drivers etc at Arrow Electronics. They have times where seemingly random led strips and drivers are available at very heavily reduced prices. @MidnightSun72 built TWO 600W FIXTURES using the same led's (same diodes, different strips) you plan to use, for a total parts cost of $250. If you can wait around for the sporadic price reductions it's well worth it.

ALSO THIS THREAD posts regular deals and specials on Amazon lights and other stuff. Some bargains in there though you will need to be fluent in decoding Chinese marketing spiels.

Hi thanks for the information I'll have a read looks like I've gotten confused along the way I thought by adding more strips it would run softer therefore less heat looks like more research before I begin buying cheers
