Safe breeding setup

Hi all, I've been growing for years outdoors, and just under a year indoors.

I've got a really good tight perpetual going on right now, but I'd like to try my hand at creating fem seeds with Colloidal Silver (it is already used in my house as a dietary supplement, so there's ample supply of 50 PPM), so I can preserve my current strains long-term.

My question is, would I be safe from cross-pollination if I create a small 'tent' and put it in a different room in my apartment to use for the pollen candidate, and then for my seed candidate, so long as I wash myself thoroughly before going between rooms?

I'm just concerned at how airborne the pollen can become, and if it will very easily travel from room-to-room, even when they will be mostly undisturbed.

Thanks,

I think you would probably be OK as long as you were careful with the cleanliness. Are you going to grow out the male just long enough to collect the pollen?

Yes. Once I can collect the pollen, I'll have no further use for the plant, and would immediately transfer one of my flowering females of the appropriate age into the new area in its place.

Hey there, Just thought I would drop in and say a few things.

First, this is my first time breeding. I had a few issues with a random seed here and there in this grow because of ladybugs I have in there.
For the most part everything is VERY controlled and is working great.

What I did was set up a closet with a 150w HPS. No fan. and the closet didn't heat up too much.

So you want to setup or build another small tent correct?
Make sure you use a low heat light so that you do not need a fan.
that will help you out with keeping the pollen in the tent when open.
Also, each day after collecting your pollen from the open sacs, spray everything down with water.
this will keep the pollen that does fall from getting blown around when you open and close the tent.

All of these are suggestions and I am far from an expert on the subject. Just thought I would give you a few tips.
Hope you have good luck with the CS sprays. I tried for 2 months on my Blue Dream clone. finally got a pinch ;).

Thanks Stew!

Well, I have a 5x100' roll of mylar that I've only used 12' of, and I'm headed to Home Depot to buy a bunch of 3/4" PVC and fittings for a ebb-and-flow setup I've designed, so I was just going to make something 1.5x1.5x2.5' or similar in size using those items (and a boatload of commercial grade velcro I'll make 'zippers' with that I'll glue and staple to the mylar).

I've got a 135w Blackstar LED that doesn't put off much heat sitting in my storage area doing nothing as a backup in case my 400w breaks down, so I was going to use that. If I find that's too hot, I've got a myriad of CFLs and Ys I will use instead so I don't need any fans running. It's not like I need any real production, so I'm thinking a ton of light won't be required.

All good suggestions which I appreciate greatly, particularly the water misting.

I've got a harvest and another planting coming up this weekend, so I'll likely buy everything I need and get everything set up by next weekend and go from there.

Cheers!
