S.O.G. Attempt

Hi Johnny,
Never done sog with rockwool...but have with clay pebbles. When you refill res...why don't you handwater the cubes and runoff will dribble down to res. Sorta like coco guys doing 20% runoff. Nutrient salts can accumulate in rockwool just like with anything else.
JD
I'll try that out. These cubes stay soaked a long time. A few days in between feeds. I've started to fill just until the bottom 2 inches to help with the drying out times.

I was under the impression the cubes dry out pretty quick was thinking of doing Rock wool next round. I see some guys say they feed 5-7 times a day but only 100ml at a time. I was hoping to go that route but if they don't dry back that quick I'm not sure.

I feed 5 times a day, 30 min floods..
But I stack cubes.
When u stack them, the bottom cubes pulls the water from the top cube like a vacuum.
By doing so, the top cube drys fast, but stays moist, which is ideal.
Hydro plants like wet feet, but moist middle top sections. If the crown is too wet it causes crown rot, root rot and all kinds of issues.
A good way to soak cubes and get them perfect, is to dunk the cubes them stack them. I usually stack them about 6 cubes high, the bottom cubes will b soaked, but the top 5 will be perfect. The bottom cubes pulls water out and oxygen in .

What's the depth of your flood table? What size cubes do you use? How long do you veg? What strain is that in the pic? She looks gorgeous. Sorry for the bombardment of questions. Just trying to learn what I can.

These go from a cloner right into a soaked plug and a 4 inch cube . I have some 4" cubes stacked onto 6 inch cubes and they do dry faster. I'm strictly trying to focus on the quicker sea of green style so spending more money on 50 plus 6 inch cubes scares me. So far no problems. A couple of deficiencies in beginning but as far as root rot and other major issues there hasn't been any, thankfully. Still multiple weeks to go though

You decide on a strain? This Mimosa isnt the best for s.o.g. but I do have some critical kush I'm going to pop in a little. I'm sure that's when I'll see the benefits of the s.o g.
I have a few im gonna try here and see whats best.
GMO
GG4
Skunk 91
Ortega x snowlotus
Maybe dosidos and creme brulee, have cuts being delivered today so depends how many and how soon I van get em goin

Is Fire OG a good strain to run SOG?
I have no idea. From what I've read and seen indicas seem to be the best. I have some Barneys Critical Kush and a couple of Oni packs but I'll definitely be running the Critical next. Exotic Genetix has some nice looking gear. On the back of each pack they give suggestions on how to run that particular strain and an idea of what it yields. I definitely plan on running something from them in the future. I had some Ghost Train Haze and Mimosa. My people loved the Mimosa. They actually commented that the G.T.H. had no flavor and raved about the Mimosas. Doesnt yield great but they love it. Never gave any thought to flavors or terps but I guess I will now

People are raving about that GMO. I've heard it takes a little to flower but worth it. The GG4 is a cut? I got some from a buddy once. It was pretty damn strong. Still remember that session. Are you going to grow in an s.o.g. style?

Good morning guys,
It was always suggested to do a single cola strain with SOG. But I did a sativa pheno of White Widow (branchy strain). I got by through rearranging pots to get a good fit between plants. I'd tuck a fan leaf and very rarely would clip a leaf. I had 23 plants on 3x3 tray using small square pots filled with hydroton. Flooded 5x daily lights on...nothing at night. They finished at around 18".

I also wanted to tell you about a plant I'm currently vegging. I have cases of rockwool in my shed from an auction last year. I just haven't figured out how I'm going to use the stuff yet.

This plant is a clone that rooted in 1" cube...then into a 3x3 cube. I just fill up the tray every couple days and let nutrients wick upward. I'm thinking a person could do that on a larger scale with a tray. Just a thought.

How many weeks did you take the White Widow and what was the yield of you don't mind me asking?

Hi Jonny,
I was just growing for myself and a buddy. Never got real accurate with weighing. But I'd get at least 6 oz from a sativa leaning WW. Never did get the furry white buds like some widow growers do. It was also my first go at hydro.
JD

PS I'd cut them at 9 weeks with cloudy and clear trichs to enhance the sativa high.

Got'cha. I grow for myself and a few family members and friends so it goes pretty fast. You rinse and reuse your hydroton after harvest? I just dread the idea of washing that much hydroton.

Yes I reused the hydroton. If you let it dry good...all the attached roots will whither to nothing and are easy to remove. Then a little wash and you're ready to go.

Ya the GMO is a 11-12 wk flower time but it supposedly stacks weight like no other. And has tested as high as 32%thc. GG4 is a cut as well.
Ive not run either yet so will be fun!
Yes Ill be doing SOG with 6inch pots so 4pots per sq ft.
Gonna use brand new hps bulbs and Ill prolly throw my 315cmh in too if I can keep the room cool enough.
Heres a pic of the gmo from the guy i got it from.

Sounds nice. If they ever make them in seed form I'll be sure to jump on them. How big is your grow area? I just purchased an HLG 600 for my 5x5. The heat from the HPS was killing me in the tent.

Drip feed, 6" cubes.. 4" on top of 6" works great, as does 4" stacked..

Strain gg4
Vegged 2 weeks (too long)
Depending on number of plants should start at 12"/15" for sog

The GG4 was an s.o.g grow? How does she yield. What has been the best yield for you during with an s.o.g. grow? My Mimosa doesn't yield as much as I want but everything else is perfect. I'm going to pop some Critical Kush soon. Was going to go with the Tropicanna Cookies f2's but I need a decent yield and from what I've read and seen the Crirical will do that

Watered the ladies with 1230ish p.p.m's and a p.h. of 5.8. Using Floraflex nutrients, CalMag, liquid Kool Bloom and Photosynthesis Plus. Took a few pics when the lights went out so you guys can see the gals without the ugly yellow lighting. She already smells awesome and is starting to pack on the trichs. Went to move a cube and realized it was damn near bone dry. Had I not moved that specific one for the pic I would've gone on about my day and watered tomorrow. I'm sure I would've lost a few if that would have happened. I learned that rockwool is definitely unforgiving when it dries out. With soil when you see it's in desperate need water and feed it some it bounces back but by the time you realize the rockwool needs water it's already to late

Gg4 is not a good sog strain.
U want something that favors it's main(apex) cola. Hybrids that stretch with minimal lateral branching.
The idea of a sog is to have sea of fat colas.
Gotta lollipop early, super crop ..it's an art
Takes alot of dialing in.

I lesrlea from Al b. Fuct on this site years n years ago.

Can maybe Google al b. Fuct rollitup.org n see if his dog thread comes up. It's basically a book on sog, albeit it's outdated
