Rutt Row... top fan leaves seem to be starting to claw :-S

I hope this is just heat stress.. my pH appears to be in the 6.5-7.0 range.. the top newest fan leaves are curling they started to do this yesterday and I could have sworn this morning they were fine but now later on in the day they seem to have a claw appearance going on.. also the bottom fan leaves were turning sideways and just about all around the plant they were 180 degrees strait up and down but still rigid... hmmm any ideas?

What temps are you running ?sounds like heat stress .

Could be a couple different things....root bound plants start to claw.....over watered plants start to claw....over nuted plants start to claw.....so....????maybe a little more info would be helpful

I just watered it yesterday and the last time I watered before then was over a week ago. I don't water that much at all and only fed it like twice. I usually do a feed then next week pure water and repeat. The temps are probably a little high, I'll have to put up a thermometer. As for root bound, it seems like it's growing like crazy so I would doubt that.

How much you feeding them??????and why so little soil in a pot that big.....are you sure it is not root bound or you think it's not root bound

Let's see I fed them 3 times, ever. I don't feed them that much. I'm sure it isn't root bound because of the growth rate of the plant, and the leaves also returned to normal after lighting adjustment.

Clay pots don't drain very well or let in much air. I also read they can absorb moisture from the soil and over dry it. I am also curious why the soil level is so low. It may just be from watering it yesterday. Sometimes they droop a little after watering. What are you using for water? I used softened water before and I guess there was too much salt in it from the softener and i got the claw too. I ended up transplanting into a bigger pot with more airy soil and a better draining pot. Give it a couple days and see if it improves on its own. If it starts getting worse I would do an emergency transplant. Good luck.

remember it all depends on the strength of your food and how much your actually feeding them, you could feed them all you want but if your not giving them the right amount you will still see defs, also get rid of that ph testing method TOO INACCURATE, get a ph meter. I recently had a ph problem that killed about 80 plants due to extremely high ph and a faulty ph meter

I looked at the pic again and that claw leaf looks wilted. So maybe it was just thirsty and it will perk up in a couple days. Good luck.

I<M expericing the claw effect too. I have decided it was heat stress . when i switched to an hid fixture from flourscent light. my top leaves clawed up and stayed that way. i installed glass in my hood and air cooled it . all new branch sets are normal. I also read that if it was heat stress they will not recover and stay clawed.

I'm pretty sure it's heat stress. The soil is low because I didn't have any more so I just used what I had, and since I'm trying to make it small anyways and btw it's plastic, not clay and it drains very well.. there are two plastic insterts at the bottom that help it to drain. I just sprayed it with some Rose 3 in 1 RX, fungicide, miteicide, grubicide see what happens...

Why did it just get better? Unless it needed to be fed, because that's the only other thing I did besides move the lights further away.. and just recently sprayed it with some Bondie Rose RX. I also got a little light burn on one of the tips of the fan leaves, not yellow just black and crispy and its barely noticeable so that is another sign of heat stress.

I'm thinking maybe it needed nutes because some of the bottom fan leaves turned brown and fell off.
